This is why I watch hundreds of mediocre non mainstream titles - to stumble across an absolute gem like this. Inspector Amaldi leads the team called to the shocking murder of two young lovers and a peeping tom who was spying on them. Subsequent murders become bloodier and more bizarre; coded messages left in blood, victim's limbs removed and those of a Victorian sex doll attached in their place. Amaldi is drawn into a bizarre world of death, taxidermy and alchemy, desperately struggling to decode the killer's messages and intentions, all the while struggling with his own demons. The best giallo of the last twenty years - Full of plot twists, red herrings and just enough police procedural. It took me back to Argento at his best, but this is no mere copy. The look of the film is stunning - exquisitely shot and edited, very Gothic, and perfectly paced. If you liked 'Seven', rent this because it's better.

I rented this film after reading the other reviewer's comments, but was very disappointed - clumsy plot, badly acted, with the worst subtitling I've ever seen! Not worth detailing all the holes in the plot - suffice to say, if you like gory films which are made with any quality, don't bother with this one. Dire!
