Stunning, one of the best RPG's on the PC, 6 Oct 2005
Fable: The Lost Chapters contains more content than its Xbox counterpart, released earlier this year. Microsoft have produced a most brilliant slice of fantasy cake.Admittedly, I didn't think I would like this game, being a hardcore KOTOR player (another cracking RPG), I was a little hesitant to go from lightsabres and pistols to swords and bows. However, this is definately one of the best purchases I have made in a long time, since buying KOTOR 1 in fact. As a boy who's village is ravaged by bandits, you must travel to the Hero's Guild and train from a boy, to apprentice, and ultimately into adulthood. This part of the game was fun, but a little disappointing. It felt a little rushed to put the player into adulthood, even with all the sidequests played. I was most looking forward to being an apprentice (a young person), but found this to be the quickest stage. All this set aside, once you leave the Hero's Guild and travel out into the big, wide world or Albion, the game really becomes excellent. The bulk of the game is accepting Hero Missions from inside the Hero's Guild. There are hundreds of sidequests to do, and lots of other fun things to add a bit of light-hearted gaming to it. You must learn your sword skills, bow skills and "Will" powers. Will powers are basically magic abilities, and really are fantastic. I must say I have not yet completed the game, and so I cannot comment on the farthest stages. In terms of video hardware, the game isn't very demanding, which is what I liked a lot. I have a powerful machine, however, a Pentium 4 3.4GHz, 512MB of RAM and a Radeon X800 XL card. Despite this, I found KOTOR was very computer draining, even mind struggled. But, Fable, with all its graphical glory, can be set to maximum settings and NO lag at all! Fantastic really. So in conclusion to this taster of Fable: The Lost Chapters, this game really is worth the investment, if your an RPG fan or not, you will love this game.
