5.0 out of 5 stars Do you remember how good they were?, 20 Sep 2005
I've been waiting for this to be released on DVD since forever and here it is at last and... I think it's brilliant! This concert is a perfect example of why The Police where the biggest and best band of the early eighties.

They've done a brilliant job re-mastering this footage, compared with the VHS version the video quality is excellent and the new DTS soundtrack is really quite remarkable especially considering this was filmed in 1983. There isn't a lot by way of special features; however there are four (live) tracks that didn't appear on the original video and interviews with all three members.

Definitely recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing I suppose, 13 Jan 2006
It's OK I guess, better than nothing I suppose but ultimately very annoying.

Everything from Stings over loud bass with his over the top stage outfit to Godley & Creme's useless direction. Engouh to make a grown fan weep.

Are we watching a Police gig, a Sting concert or a documentary about crowd behaviour? I'm not so sure!?

I'll just keep listening to the CD's, at least the guitar and drums come through loud and clear without the constant "Boing, Boing Boing" of the bass.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music, but beware of the dodgy 80s production...!, 26 Oct 2005
By A Customer
Nearly all of the best songs are there except for a couple which I would have liked to have seen (though to be fair I obviously researched the track listing before buying the DVD and knew what would and would not be there).

Songs like Everything Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Bring On The Night and Beds Too Big Without You would have made the DVD nearly perfect in my opinion, but with the huge number of hits they had, you can't blame them for having to leave off a few great tunes.

The thing that really annoyed me though was the dodgy direction / production (by Godley & Creme) - far too many distracting shots of the audience. While it's nice to see the odd member of the audience every now and then (to get a feel for the atmosphere), I thought the amount of audience shots in the DVD was intrusive and detracted from the performance which overall was fantastic. (Apart from Message In A Bottle, which seemed a little... slow? Uninspired? It sounded like the band were bored to death of playing the song!). I would say that the ratio between shots of the band to shots of the audience is probably about 75:25, whereas I think a live DVD should be more like 95:5. I bought the DVD to see the band live on stage, not to see an audience watching the band.

The extras are better because you can select your own camera angles which means you view see 4 songs how you want. Overall though, a great DVD, reminds me of why I fell in love with the Police in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid...
Apart from Sting's disgusting haircut and some very, very dated video-editing-effects this is a absolutely splendid performance banned on DVD. Read more
