Product Description

Product Description
The new album from Opeth, Ghost Reveries, is 66 minutes of staggering new material. Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt puts it this way: "There's no other band on the planet like us." Believe it. This is set to be not only the Swedish metal album of the year but possibly THE metal album of the year.

CD Description
Eighth album, following 2003's 'Damnation', from these Swedes whose technical mastery of their instruments and unique fusion of psych-folk, prog rock and death metal has won them an obsessive cult following. Now signed to the influential Roadrunner Records, they have delivered their most polished and cohesive release to date, fusing beauty, melody and aggression in a crisply produced whole. Includes the single 'The Grand Conjuration'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal album of the year!, 13 Nov 2005
Mikael Åkerfeldt has a serious habbit of making the most fantastic music, and this album is no different!
This album has so much, from the angelic singing and soft guitars, to the pounding drums and death growls! Opeth make pieces of music rather than songs, you listen to a track and get hooked by a part of it, then another part, then another. This continues until you love the album and know it well. If you buy only one album this year make sure its this, is simply stunning!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but nowhere near the best, 18 Jul 2006
By Gavin Simmonds "gavfromct" (aberdeen) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There seems to be quite a split between the reviewers of this album. Some people love it, and some people think that it's not as good as Opeth's earlier works.

In preparation for this reviews I thought that I would listen to all of the Opeth albums I own, so over the weekend I listened to Still Life, Deliverance, Blackwater Park and of course Gost Reveries. I don't own Morningrise, My Arms Your Hearse, or Orchid so I am just basing my review on the albums that I have got. Unfortunately out of the four, Ghost Reveries is just the weakest. I am struggling to get into it, as their style has changed a bit. I like the first song Ghost of Perdition, until the all too familiar Tool-like bit comes up. People who listen to Tool will know exactly what I mean. In my opinion there are bits in Ghost Reveries, that are taken from these previous albums. For me there is no song on this album that has the calibre and power of "The Moor", "The Leper Affinity", "Deliverance", "Serentiy Painted Death". I could go on. The Grand Conjuration is not a bad song, but to me is just not Opeth. I understand that bands do change and experiment, like Radiohead and other bands, but I really hope that Opeth's next album stays old school.

If you are new to Opeth, you might listen to this album and think it's brilliant, do me a favour and go and buy Still Life, Blackwater Park, and Deliverance. They are true classics. If you are a fan of Opeth you should still buy it, but don't expect a classic album. I know that this review might not go down well, and I will get a few people saying that this review was not helpful, but I have been honest. Ghost Reveries is still not a bad album, but is nowhere near their best work
