This film is excellent, and it's easy to see why Kevin Smith and his J and Silent Bob characters are such cult figures. Very funny from start to finish.
Top performances from pretty much everyone. Jason Lee has had a good few major films under his belt now (Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky for example), but he really shines as the hilarious comic-book obsessed Brodie. Jay and Silent Bob turn in, as usual, a highly amusing performance, with imitating quotes galore. Joey Lauren Adams is excellent as the blonde bimbo, and Claire Forlani is just as good as the pressured "daddy's girl". Ben Affleck debuts and is the subject of much mockery as the giant bully who proceeds to terrorise Lee and steal his girlfriend, Shannon Doherty. But Jeremy London is poor - in fact, even though he's the main character the viewer ends up getting annoyed with his introspectiveness.
The DVD extras are lame. Unless you're a DVD perfectionist there's no real difference between the VHS and DVD extras.

If you only learn one thing in life let it be this: Critics do't always get it right. Go with your feelings as to wether you will enjoy something and you will probably be correct. Critics HATED this film, and yey here it is still selling 10 years later. Kevin Smith is a genius in my book, but had I listened to those damn critics I may never have realised as he still gets very little coveage in the UK. I love this kind of thing! The humour is so sharp and the film is like a cartoon or comic. Check this out and enjoy.

This films proves that a great film can be done on the smallest of budgets. Simplicty in its self. The best film of the lot and one of the best ever made.
Jason Lee is the funniest guy on the planet!!

Big fan of Mallrats; one of the few, it would seem, who saw it in the cinema. Have bought more than one version on DVD, including the alternative cut and even bought it on HD-DVD.

This disc is a "vanilla" disc, in the extreme. Perhaps because of the fact that the cover used was not the same as the original awful R2 dvd release I thought this might at least have the extras available on R1 DVD (if not the extended cut). Wrong. No "featurettes", no deleted scenes, no 10th anniversary goodies, no extended cut (no surprise) but worst of all no commentary! Yes, no commentary. No English (or any) words on the menu, for example to select chapters you choose the symbol that looks like an open book.

Picture is sharper, colours are richer and the DTS-HD sound is an improvement but that is the absolute minimum I expect from a blu-ray hi-def release.

A wasted opportunity.

This film is another masterpiece in comedy by Kevin Smith.
The story of mallrats centres around 2 friends - T.S & Broadie, who have both recently been dumped by their girlfriends, while T.S is desperate to get his girl back Broadie is to arrogant to admit he wants his back 2. Broadie takes T.S to the mall to help them forget about their estranged loved ones but this is where their epic quest to get their girlfriends back begins with hilarious consequences, enlisting the help of the infamous Jay and Silent Bob along the way. This film is a rollin on the floor laugh out loud comedy maybe not quite as funny as Smith's Jay and Silent Bob strike back but still up their with the funniest comedys of all time. Buy it now its great!...................oh its a sailboat(insider joke) you'll have 2 buy the movie to get it

With Clerks, Kevin Smith managed to transcend his low budget to produce a film that relied on script more than special effects - and Mallrats is much the same. Obviously the budget was increased from Smith's debut outing, though not to the usual stellar Hollywood levels. Once again he relies on his (very sharp) script and sympathetic but funny characters - Jason Lee is a stand-out as the acerbic Brodie. Obviously it wouldn't be part of the View Askew-niverse without ever-presents Jay and Silent Bob, and the pair are present and correct in Mallrats.
Many people call Mallrats inferior to Clerks (possibly), others call it a bad movie (definitely not).
I think that Mallrats has a brilliant script, hilarious scenarios springing up from a relatively mundane basic premise, and a whole host of memorable and funny characters. The acting is (on the whole......TS) excellent, and if you can look past the - admittedly prolific - profanity, there is an excellent film here.
A particular treat for those who have also watched other films in the series (e.g. Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).

This is of course one of Kevin Smiths early movies, it didn't do too well back in 1995 when it first came out but its certainly shot to cult status now time has gone on, a very bold comedy about a bunch of kids hanging out at the mall, relationship problems and general funny comedy antics like you get in all Kevin Smith movies, especially from the awesome Jay and silent Bob characters and the rest of the great cast and famous cameos, this is a great movie still very funny and it looks greater now on this new import bluray release, top HD picture making the movie look better than ever, all the special features are present from the import DVD version, lots of stuff to watch, the disc has the over 2 hour extended cut too and this is a region free disc so us in the UK can have this definitive version!!
