Product Description
Product Description
Paul Weller returns with his most hard hitting solo album to date. As Is Now finds Weller plugging in, and turning the volume up louder than he has in years. The first single "From The Floorboards Up" is out now and is 2 minutes 27 seconds of edgy, malevolent rock'n'roll. Possessing the same urgency "In The City" had 29 years ago, it shows Paul Weller rejuvenated--a livewire and firebrand ready to take on all comers on this his eighth solo album.

Description
Ninth solo album and follow-up to 2002's 'Illumination' from the Modfather Paul Weller. Recorded at Wheeler End Studios, the album was produced by Jan Kybert, who also worked on his acclaimed covers album 'Studio 150' in 2004. This recording is a return to form by the former Jam frontman, who delivers here fourteen tracks of classic Britpop. The single 'Come On Let's Go' is included.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, 10 Nov 2005
This review is from: As Is Now (Audio CD)
I really love this album from the stirring and rip-roaring riffs of Blink And You'll Miss It and then through the undulating mix of styles, like the calm and collected I Wanna Make It Alright. Mr Weller really delivers, just like the very 1st time I heard and saw the Jam. The man is a real icon and still at the top

4.0 out of 5 stars Weller's best since "Heavy Soul", 15 Oct 2005
Paul Weller trod water somewhat with "Heliocentric" and "Illumination", which were both quite brooding, introspective albums with no discernable verve or joie de vivre, despite some high points. However, this latest offering is the exact opposite. It bristles with vivacity and clarity of sound and deliverance from the very first moment. Impressive mixing of acoustic and electric guitars, a clearer, sharper drum sound than usual, and, something new - trombones and horns in places. Weller moves smoothly from stomping rockers such as "Come On Let's Go" and "From The Floorboards Up" to dreamy semi-acoustic beauty such as is found in "Pan". For the first, time, the cover art shows Weller in an urban setting as opposed to the bucolic, and certainly this collection, despite its peaceful phases, has a slick, urban feel to it. This is a change for Weller, all his solo work being dominated by the feel of rurality and peace. This album is one of a fast pace of life. Its intensity is always apparent, even in the slower cuts.

Highly recommended. Although Weller never lost his touch, he has rediscovered his direction here. Excellent.

having just finished listening to this Album i must say that its very close to being Weller at his best, this album mixes the best of Wild Wood and Stanley Road and blends it into a fine record

Yes, this is a strong album alright, but not perfect. There are one or two songs which are a little strained and 'Here's The Good News' is the kind of hony-tonk tune (replete with... Read more
