Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is a definitive action adventure based on the Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media film capturing the renowned and beloved book series from author C.S. Lewis.

Players enter the world of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter by the evil powers of the malevolent and evil White Witch. In order to end this frigid captivity and free his people, the mighty lion Aslan, true ruler of Narnia, invokes an ancient prophecy.  It will become the destiny of four young siblings from our world: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie to work together and use their unique combat skills, weaponry and abilities to defeat the Witch and her armies and save Narnia. These four unlikely heroes must battle the evil forces of the White Witch by waging war against a vast variety of creatures, including Centaurs, Minotaurs, Minoboars, Cyclops, Werewolves, Wraiths, Ankleslicers, Wolves, Satyrs, Boggles and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite addictive!, 4 Jan 2006
By A Customer
I have the Nvidia Geforce FX 5500 graphics card which is enough to run this game as long as you have up to date drivers (which you can get off the Nvidia website free). The graphics are very good and the game is challenging enough for older children up to adults (who might like to enter the game as the second player, as I do) to help their child. There is a lot of fighting and the game is similar in many ways to Return of the King by EA Games. However there are some puzzles to solve too e.g. how to break through barriers and even some of the fighting involves solving puzzles and the four children all have a role to play, e.g. Susan kills enemy archers with her own bow and arrows. There are also some timed tasks e.g. escaping from the house at the start of the game, hiding the children from an ogre and stopping wolves from breaking through in the tunnel. There are statues, shields and coins to collect and you can explore Narnia to an extent, but after you have completed a part, it usually becomes inaccessible although you can go back to previous levels through a menu. The game is addictive, although it involves much more fighting than the film. The only real problem is the same as with Return of the King. The viewpoints can be really annoying! Very often you can hardly see yourself let alone control what you are doing. So you may win a battle, without much accurate skill or targetting. This can be worse with two players because unless you are working together, you will find your friend is stopping you from moving to a part of the screen you want to go to, and you may also be looking at your character from far away. However it is useful to have two people at many parts. The gameplay would be much better if there was a split screen and first person perspective. As it is you feel quite separate from your character and sometimes will have to look twice to find yourself in the midst of your brothers/sisters/monsters you are fighting. The other thing is that there are quite a few keys to remember and my 8 year old found it easier if I stuck symbols on the keyboard for her! It would have been better with mouse control like Harry Potter 2 & 3. Because of this, although the game gets a 4 overall, if I was scoring it just for gameplay I would only give it a grudging 3. However in spite of these shortcomings we really like it.

Like the previous reviewer, a friend bought this game and then was faced with the error message about pixel shaders 1.1 - and cannot find an upgrade for their graphics card. Consumers beware.
