4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game, But Sega were Lazy on the UK/Euro version, 4 Oct 2005
I've been looking forward to Sonic Gems for many many moons, now dont get me wrong it's a fantastic game. But unfortunaly Sega have decided to be lazy an port over the US version of the Game instead of the Japanese version...

It sounds nit picking yes, but The big selling point for SOnic fans in this title is Sonic CD. We originally recieved the game on the Mega CD with the original Japanese music (*which is one of the best game soundtracks of all time) but the US version has a terrible soundtrack, so Sonic fans wont be getting the nostalgia they think theyre getting.

Also add the fact that the US version also is missing the hidden Streets of Rage 1,2 and 3 games (to get a kids rating) so your only getting half a game here.

my advice for Sonic fans, get a freeloader and a Japanese copy! if your new to the classic series though, this will suffice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonic CD rocks!!!, 18 Aug 2005

Sonic Gems Collection will be worth buying for Sonic CD alone, if you haven't played this game before then you simply have to buy this collection just to play this gem (no pun intended). The other games in this set are a mixed bag really, Sonic The Fighters is ok and Sonic R is good for afew laughs. I m not sure about the Game Gear games included as i haven't played many of them before, Sonic 2, Triple Trouble and Drift racing are the only ones i ever owned and i don't remember them being up to much. Bottom line is that this game is worth buying simply for Sonic CD alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Mega Collection, 26 Oct 2005

With this installment, the Gamecube now plays host to virtually every Sonic game ever made. Still, this collection cannot help but feel like leftovers to the superlative Mega Collection.
I'm disappointed with Sonic CD; despite some clever ideas, it feels messy and rushed.
Sonic R is terrible to play and looks very dated.
Sonic the Fighters brings back memories of playing it at the arcade and is quite good.
The Gamegear games feel restrictive and frustrating.
The Megadrive games, thankfully, are very good, but you have to unlock them first... and they aren't even Sonic games. In fact, the Bare Knuckle trilogy (Streets of Rage) is the best thing about this collection, and they aren't even present in this version (I had to import the Japanese version of the game).
Disappointing overall, but there are still some 'gems' on here that make it all better.
