I read the one star review and completely disagree. Renee Fleming brings a her style and great voice to deliver a really good combination of sacred songs. Definitely worth buying.

Saw Renee Fleming performing live at the Faenol Festival with Bryn Terfel a couple of years ago and was quite impressed - bought this CD on the basis of that performance. However, I must admit to being very disappointed with this disk. Fleming has a juggernaut of a voice with rather a harsh edge to it at times which makes it unsuitable for sacred songs. I've listened to the disk three times now in the hope that it would grow on me but it makes painful listening - I'm sure that the songs have been recorded by artists with a lighter, more flexible tone who make a far better job of them -seek them out and avoid this one.

Heard Renee Fleming live at the Faenol Festival some years ago and was sufficiently impressed to seek out this CD, being a fan o sacred arias. However, having listened to it a couple of times I've put in back on the rack as I didn't enjoy it - I find her voice too powerful for this kind of song - a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut, if you get my drift.
