When I first heard this song live I was a little surprised that it had come from the pen of Pete Doherty. Having always associated Doherty with sprawling romantacism and indie/punk music this grungey, stop start single is a bit of a shock but is in fact, rather good. Reminiscient of 'The saga' (Libertines song) it sees Doherty producing a fine lyric encompassing politics, life and his own problems (including the wonderfully witty line 'I'm so clever but I'm not very wise'). As for the music its very stop start and a little heavier than the usual Doherty but complinets the lyric nicely. If you can look past the brutal, obscenity in the title you'll find a song worthy of attention. A change but a welcome one at that.

FF is OK, but Pete sounds lifeless on this compared to, say, the first Libertines album. Monkey casino is so-so. Brett Anderson said he kicked crack to get back in touch with his muse. And ended up re-uniting with Bernard Butler & making the fine Tears album. Pete Doherty should take heed.
