So many digi cams out there, so which one shall I get? Ok, here is the background, I already own a Nikon D70, but I needed something compact, reasonably priced camera that can take decent pictures. I already know the Panasonic range of cameras are excellent, mainly due to the optics and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). OIS has existed for a while on VERY expensive professional lenses which cost hundreds, if not thousands which the professionals use.
The camera itself is very well designed - ergonomic. It's not silly sized where you need to hold it delicately. The controls are very easy to use and set the camera up. It's a typical consumer camera - 4MP, Great 6x optical zoom (most important) 4x digi zoom (useless), nice sharp 2" screen, continuous shot, very fast start up and fast shooting capability. All these functions make a good camera, but the killer sales tool must be the OIS. You may call it a glorified piece of software or over hyped technology, but it really works, the only downside is, in very low lights, the pictures become noisy. I have taken many shots already using this function and overall the quality is excellent considering the size of the lens does not allow much light into it. Indoor pictures with indoor lights is sufficient for OIS to produce decent quality pictures. The OIS cannot stop blur though, meaning, if the subject is moving around in poor light, then you will end with a blurry picture. The flash works very well too.
Overall the quality of picture is superb in natural daylight and indoor. Colours are vibrant and deep. To get better pictures play with white balance settings, especially indoors.

I am very impressed with this camera and looks like a worthy secondary camera to my D70.

fun little camera with amazing zoom. after little ones disaterous trip to see james masters and her sony cybershot not getting in close enough to get decent pics i went for the 6x zoom of the panasonic, and as much as it doesnt match my fz20 its very small ideal for a young lady and can really get good pics at concerts and still stay hidden in her handbag.
with it only being 4mps it can store almost 150 pics on one 256mb card so she was snap happy at his last gig even if we did delete over half the pics but she had a huge smile and i think thats the important thing.
