5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourite modern film soundtracks, 8 Jan 2009
I'm quite a fan of film soundtracks - at their best they can be great stand alone items and collections of songs from several genres that somehow blend into a great album. Then again there are the albums that evoke the mood of the film in question, almost behaving like an audio reminder of the feeling that you were left with after watching the movie. For me this CD hits the mark on both of those counts.
The 1st time I saw the film, 'Broken Flowers' probably scored about 4 stars : I really liked it (great script, excellent performances from all of the leads), but something just kept it from being a classic. However, I did find it slightly haunting, its tale of loss, regret, growing old and general existential angst all coming back to me days after watching it.
This CD is the soundtrack to that feeling. Wonderful selection of songs (including the great Ethiopian tracks - see also the superb 'Ethiopiques' albums) skipping seemlessly from genre to genre, but still cohesively clinging together into one of the very best CD's that I've heard in months. Between my mp3 player and my home stereo I've probably listened to this CD at least once or twice a week for a year now.
Highly recommended to fans of the film and to serious music buffs...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice sounds from Mulatu, 3 Feb 2006
By A Customer
When seeing the movie the soundtrack immediately attracted my attention, especially the songs by Mulatu Astatke. But also the rest of the songs on the CD are very enjoyable: Holly Golightly, Marvin Gaye.
