Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Preview

For the majority of football loving video games fans the most important event in the gaming calendar is the release of a new Pro Evolution Soccer game.

Only a few screenshots have so far been seen of the game, but it looks astonishing even by PSP standards, with highly realistic graphics that almost look better than the PS2 version. A wireless multiplayer is already guaranteed (although for how many people is still unclear), which together with the reliability of the Pro Evolution Soccer name is almost all committed fans will need to know.

The game is expected to include many of the new features from the latest home console versions, including the introduction of wingbacks and more realistic weather conditions. One feature that is definitely confirmed for the PSP is the Master League that allows you to take on a player manager role. Indeed, series creator Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka has suggested that the Master League may be expanded to such a degree that it will become almost a mini version of Championship Manager -- so that you’ll be quite happy just playing that on the move and the actual matches when you get home.

Whatever the exact features of the game, there seems little chance that this won’t immediately become the definitive portable football simulation when it is finally released. -- Harrison Dent

5.0 out of 5 stars Pro Evo 5 PSP 1-0 Fifa 06 PSP, 26 Nov 2005

I currently own both Pro Evo 5 and Fifa 06 for PSP, when i had my PS2 i was a Fifa fan and i never bought pro evo, but now i have played both i can see that on the PSP pro evo 5 is far better than fifa 06 PSP.

The gameplay is excellent far better than fifa, the only problem is the lack of liscenced teams but soon you will be able to buy a update (eBay) that changes all the names to their real ones e.g. Merseyside Red will turn to Liverpool. Another thing is it does not have commentary, but to be honest this is good because the commentary has always been poor on pro evo.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK but not what I was expecting, 10 May 2006

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Slightly gutted. I love Pro Evolution on the PS2 and have every version. It is the best footy game, full stop. PSP version however falls short for me. Graphics are great, realism is great but the reason I buy Pro Evo is for those things + the challenge of Master League. There is no Master League. Working your way up from a not-so-good team to the top of the tree takes a long time and is a fantastic challenge. I also can't find a 'wide view' which has severly limited my ability to score goals! You are treated to very little view of the pitch and this is really annoying. I bought this game because I thought I was getting Pro Evo 5 for PSP, not a mickey mouse version of it. Probably my fault for not reading any reviews beforehand and relying on brand and product intergrity. I won't be making the same mistake again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 21 Jul 2006

Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
Because of the high standards that the Pro Evo franchise has brought to the football genre, I expected a lot from this game but I was sadly disappointed by this PSP version. I also own the PS2 version of this game and I was expecting a streamlined version of that. Unfortunately, not only are the Master League and Cup modes missing from the PSP version but the game play is lacking the bite and the silkiness of its bigger brother.

The passing is certainly not as smooth or crisp as on the PS2, making what seems a straightforward pass a chore to execute. There is also no wide view option, meaning that you cannot see all that is going on around the player in possession. This results in a lot of misplaced passes, aimless crosses and opponents appearing out of no where to dissposses you. Glancing at the pitch map to pick a pass is therefore required and normally results in a loss of concentration that in turn also results in loss of possession.

Scoring a goal here seems like a much more lucky or random event rather than the result of a carefully constructed move that is the trademark of Pro Evo, which totally takes the satisfaction away from scoring, dragging things down to the level of EA's FIFA series. The lack of a Master League and therefore the absence of the ability to create your own team also takes away the sense of satisfaction at achieving anything in this game.

Another frustrating aspect of the game are the loading times. It takes at least a minute to get from your team selection to kicking off. You eventually get a view around the same old stadium that you play in for every game, which looks very small and lacks atmosphere. It could easily be a Scottish premier league ground.

The report on Konami? Must try harder, hoping for better next term with Pro Evo 6, although I think I'll stick to buying it on the PS2.
