Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
In a nutshell:
The term "interactive movie" is justly associated with misguided attempts at combining games and film. Fahrenheit’s cinematic leanings, however, incorporate the elements that make movies different (characters, tension and plot) with well thought-out game mechanics, and the result is uniquely thrilling.

The lowdown:
Making decisions against a rapidly dwindling timer, your character wakes up having just committed a bizarre ritual murder of which he has no memory. You must switch between playing the fugitive and the cops on his trail, your conflicting jobs are to help the anti-hero escape and conversely to help put him behind bars. But what mysterious force drove him to kill in the first place?

Most exciting moment:
Frequent interludes of rapid button pressing simulate physical exertion as your character escapes a looming threat you can see catching up with you. Your heart will be palpitating. Your nerves will be frayed.

Since you ask:
The introduction and brief tutorial from the game’s "writer/director" David Cage, is actually the head of the title’s French development team, Quantic Dream, animated as a videogame character.

The bottom line:
Utterly superb movie-style thriller with genuine frights and a superbly tense climax.
Nick Gillett

Manufacturer's Description
New York January 2009

For no apparent reason, ordinary people are killing total strangers. Although there are no direct links between the murders, they all show the same ritual patterns. Lucas Kane becomes one of these murderers, and haunted by strange visions he must try to keep one step ahead of the police to discover what is happening to him.

Inspector Carla Valenti and Agent Tyler Miles are heading up the investigation. A series of disturbing clues takes them into a world they can only dream of. Meanwhile the early onset of winter paralyses Manhattan in an unbearable grip of snow and cold. Each day the temperature drops as the winter conditions draw over the dark streets of New York.

The final countdown has already begun!

  • Choose to play as one of the four leading characters, Lucas Kane, Detective Carla Valenti, Carla's partner, Detective Tyler Miles and Marcus Kane, Lucas' brother
  • Play through a total of 44 bone chilling acts
  • Manage the mental health of each of your characters by choosing the correct course of action and maintaining their psychological balance
  • Special multi-view split screen allows players to see what is happening in a different area of the game whilst playing through a particular scenario
  • A unique combination of interactivity and cinematography, enhancing the intense storyline and adventure
  • Spectacular action sequences and easy to learn and easy to use interface
  • Dark and moody atmosphere, creating an "edge of your seat" experience

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than so many, but far from perfect, 24 Sep 2005
This game starts off brilliantly - I mean, *brilliantly*. You have committed a murder and you have to decide what to do; what would you do? What mistakes would you make?

Sadly, you soon begin to lose this sense of control over the story. The game starts to over-rely on the two minigames it employs; button-hammering for "effort" activities and Dance mat style precision for "skill" activities. Fail in those games, and you have to try again; succeed, and all you really get is an extended cutscene.

This game starts out as an exciting new experience, and ends up as an enjoyable movie. My disappointment was such that I am tempted to rate it lower, but in truth it doesn't deserve that.

The real breath of fresh air in this game is that it doesn't give you time to explore all opportunities: it is an adventure game with a sense of pace, where you never feel you have tried everything because there are questions you could have asked but didn't.

An entertaining story, with good characters, this game is just slightly more cerebral than your average FPS, but after the first few scenes it doesn't really tax the grey matter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game, 27 Dec 2005
    By A Customer
I received Fahrenheit as a Christmas gift and instantly found myself intrigued and determined to see it through. I finished it in a couple of days; and it's rather brief length was a plus for me. I was hooked from the start. It's a good looking game, the graphics are excellent. It's very atmospheric, the music and sound effects enhance rather than distract from the game. I found the character controls easy to operate. The characters are fully formed and the dialogue is mostly believable. The job of keeping your character's mental state of mind in balance is a nice twist. They have to eat, drink, sleep, use the bathroom, and even have sex; if they become too overwrought it's game over. I did get a little irritated with the constant button pushing, (there are enemies to fight and escapes to be made), but the plot kept me interested. The story does take a sour turn about mid way through and it stops being a 'crime drama' and turns into pulp science fiction.

The game comes with an age rating of 15, I think that's appropriate. It's not for young children. The game moves rapidly and the ability to play more than one character keeps things at a fast pace. There are three different skill levels if the button pushing isn't challenging enough. I was constantly left wondering if I had answered a question differently or chosen another action how that would have effected the outcome. I'm looking forward to playing it again as there are several possible endings. I highly recommend Fahrenheit. Especially, if like me, you have little experience with or interest in most computer games. This one is different.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic game, 21 Mar 2007

    Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
From start to finish I loved this *game* I have to agree with previous people who say it might be a little hard using the keyboard, i did find it difficult at first but you soon get use to it, it was also annoying at times to miss the videos because you have to keep a close eye on the instructions instead. Also the ending was over quick, a lot quicker than some of the other fight scenes in the game but the overall game makes up for it. A very involved game with good story line and game play, having the multiple characters keeps you in the loop all the way which is a great new feel on things.
