All the Amazon reviews for this film rightly point to the beauty and majesty of the cinematography, the remarkable achievement of the filmmakers and the desperate struggle for survival that they tell. But I was immediately struck by the lilting score written by Alex Wurman. It complements the bleakness of the landscape and the wondrous remoteness of it all with a sweeping orchestration and one of those little musical motifs that stick in your head, picked out in turn by piano, flute and oboe, that somehow bestows on our penguin heroes that extra dimension to their character that sets this motion picture aside from other wildlife documentary. Masterful.
