I was completely enthralled with this delightful CD of recorder pieces, and astonished at the emotional range these pieces cover when you consider our perception of the recorder as the little tootling instrument of our school days. On this recording it would seem that recorders of all ranges are used, and to astonishing effect, by John Turner.Some of the compositions are not so immediate, and require a second hearing to allow the listener entry to their secrets. But others, particularly the Hope concerto and the beautiful Mrs. Harris waltz by Dubery catch the heart right from the first bars. These are perhaps the greatest pleasures on a disc that I just play and play. I'll certainly be looking out for more gems from these forces in future.

I thought this CD was delightful. I particularly enjoyed the Peter Hope and the David Dubery pieces; very accessible. I think some of the other pieces are not so easy on a first hearing and need more concentration but are well worth the effort. Recommend it as a good bargain and well worth a few quid to invest in some interesting stuff to broaden your outlook.

By far one of the most interesting CDs issued in 2005. I thought the recorder belonged to the world of primary schools until I heard this excellent CD. How wrong I was to think that this ancient instrument should be tossed asside. Each piece is refreshing and ever so English in nature and feel. I particularly like the piece by Dubery, with it's elegant flow and memories of happy times.

Well done to all! Please more!
