Hello! just in case anyone is interested.....

Billie Holiday recorded for 4 labels:
Columbia (basically 1933-1942)
Commodore (1939 and 1944)
Decca (1944-1950)
Verve (1952-1959)

Columbia: the first 151 songs on this are all from columbia. If you look on Amazon at her Columbia box set, all of the songs from the first 7 discs up until 'It's a sin to tell a lie' are on here as well. (except, for some reason, 'carelessly', which is left out) This leaves about 3/1/2 discs which aren't included.

Commodore: out of 2 discs' worth of recordings, all are on here apart from the first 4 (Strange Fruit, Yesterdays, Fine And Mellow & I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues). These 4 are some of her BEST, so if you like the others, really try to hear these as well.

Decca: out of 2 discs, the first 1/1/2 are here, up to 'My Man'. One of the 15 that are left out is the famous 'God Bless the Child' (however the columbia version of GBTC is included)

Verve: there are NO VERVE recordings in this set. There are actually about 6 cds' worth of verve master takes. Billie Holiday's voice changed a lot in her last years - some people like me prefer her later recordings, and some her earlier ones. There is an awesome video on youtube of 'Fine and Mellow' which gives an indication - from 1957, I think.

As you might expect the packaging is VERY simple each of the 10 discs is in a cardboard sleeve with the track listings and composers, and they all fit into one cardboard box. There isn't a booklet.

Also, there are no live recordings. You can find a bit of info about these on the her wikipedia article.

Finally the sound quality: I don't really know because I haven't compared it to any other releases or 'remasters' etc. I think what happens with these really cheap sets is that usually they just copy other cd releases (this is probably the case here, because all the tracks run in the same order as other box sets ie chronologically). Otherwise, they might just record directly from the vinyl, in which case the sound won't be as good as 'remastered' cds.

Dig the music! This lady knows time, everything is FINE, right out of On The Road etc.....
