Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
The lemmings are back and once again you’re called in to save them from themselves and help them to safety. Using a range of gadgets and tools you’ve got to stop them plummeting over cliffs and into bear traps in one of gaming’s most beloved puzzle games.

The lowdown:
One of the few puzzle games to owe absolutely nothing to Tetris, Lemmings finds you trying to save the lives of dozens of green haired mammals whose disregard for their own safety has them walking mindlessly from left to right across the screen. Each of the hundreds of different levels gives you a limited range of tools to help them, from bridges to floating umbrellas. Without a mouse the controls are more awkward than they used to be but there’s a useful zoom option and the ability to pause the game at any time. There’s also an online multiplayer mode and the chance to design your own levels.

Most exciting moment:
Blowing up your lemmings when you fail a level and watching the fireworks.

Since you ask:
Lemmings debuted on the Amiga in 1993 and has since gone on to appear on twenty different formats, although now that Sony owns the license future will games will only be on PlayStation consoles.

The bottom line:
A very welcome blast from the animal endangering puzzle past.
HARRISON DENT

Manufacturer's Description

Controlling an army of lemmings, the aim is to get as many of these cute characters as you can from the entrance point to the exit point of a level within a time limit. Easy to learn, difficult to master; Lemmings is a test of strategy and fast thinking as you make 'on the spot' life or death decisions for your band of trusting little creatures. Use the unique skills of your Lemmings team to overcome the hazards ahead: the bomber explodes at will, the floater can survive high falls and the basher digs horizontally just when you need it. The climber is at hand for those tricky mountain ranges, the blocker creates an obstacle in the path ahead and the builder is there to construct walkways for his friends.

Stretch your strategies across 100 plus levels as you lead your lemmings across an immense variety of challenging backdrops. The levels are arranged into five striking themes, each with its own unique visual flavour. So, whether it's going underground into the sewers or marching through fields and forests, the lemmings always have new terrain to explore.

Packed with a host of new features, Lemmings offers for the first time a level editor allowing players to produce their own levels and save them to the memory card on the PSP. Using the inbuilt wireless technology on the PSP, players can upload these levels to an exclusive Lemmings online community. Share your unique levels with other users or download their new levels directly to your PSP -- the opportunities are endless.

Perfect for a gaming snack or a marathon meal, Lemmings on the PSP is engaging and addictive; be proud to follow the crowd with Lemmings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lemmings, a classic!, 12 Aug 2006
By C. Owens (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
So, lemmings... everyone knows this game right? This was the first game I every played when I got my Amiga in 1992 and the hook factor is still there. Sure its got better graphics, more sounds and is generally a lot shinier but the most important thing is that it is still as addictive today as it ever was.

So - has anything changes for our little lemmings? Well, yes! The graphics are alot more polished than in the old 2D days - they have a 3D rendered feel and I like it. The cute noises are still there but there are more of them - wait till you hear one cry "Why ME!" when you blow him up... brings a tear to your eye!!

All the original levels are there plus 32 new ones. Team17 are offering more to download from their website but *may* charge for this in the future. A huge bonus is the included level editor, so you can create your own levels and unleash them on your friends via your wifi connection! perfect :)

Generally I feel lemmings is a perfect PSP game - just enough for a 10 minute play when you're bored or waiting for a train or you could lose yourself for hours playing through all the levels and then making your own!

5.0 out of 5 stars An addictive game!, 14 April 2006

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I purchased this game on the day it came out and so far I am unable to put it down.

As you try to save the lemmings it really really is a mind-boggling experience. The controls are really simple and easy to pick up.

The gameplay is fab and the graffics are exceptionally good. It is just as good as all the previous versions of lemmings.

You must go out and buy this game because it is an all-round 10/10 game!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic – Improves on an all-time classic, 15 Mar 2006
I was a little wary of the release of Lemmings PSP. Fondly remembering the Amiga version 10+ years ago, I was worried the developers would change it too much in an effort to make it appeal to a new audience (Remember Lemmings 3D, anyone?). I am happy to confirm, they’ve done nothing of the sort.

All the addictiveness of the original game is there, as are all the levels and many new ones thrown in. The controls are good (only took 2 minutes to get used to the pad replacing the mouse). There is an added “zoom” feature, which allows you to see the lemmings more clearly, in this mode the screen pans with the mouse.

The graphics are vastly improved over the original with nice “cartoony” backgrounds and foregrounds, which look like modern versions of the original. Sound is excellent with different music accompanying each level theme.

Overall A+, An excellent upgrade on a game loved all over the world.
