Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Preview

On the face of it The Godfather isn’t an obvious movie to be made into a video game, what with it being more than thirty years old and staring a lot of middle age men in hats. On the other hand it is incredibly violent; and morally ambiguous enough to make an excellent period version of Grand Theft Auto…which is exactly what this appears to be.

Although lots of missions from and inspired by the movie are promised you actually play a completely new character and control them over a period of ten years, between 1945 and 1955. During this time you get to take part in all manner of mobster type activities including managing protection rackets, assassination missions and full blown gang wars against the five different mob families in the game.

Despite all the big name stars lending their voices and faces to the game it’s actually New York that seems to be the main star with a highly impressive, if somewhat sparsely populated, virtual city. The graphics are excellent, although it remains to be seen just how much variety there is to the missions, considering the game can’t really go to some of the more surreal excess of Grand Theft Auto. So even if this isn’t quite an offer you can’t refuse, it’s at least looking like one to be taken very seriously. --Harrison Dent

This preview is based on an incomplete version of the game; features or problems mentioned above may not appear in the finished game.

Manufacturer's Description

Gamers will create their own mob character in the game, putting themselves into the action while reliving classic moments from the fiction and experiencing original missions alongside memorable characters from the film. After a life of small-time jobs and petty thefts the player will be accepted into the Corleone family, America's most famous criminal organization. It will be up to the player to carry out orders, earn respect and make New York City their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy, 5 April 2006

An excellent game.

The comparisons to GTA:San Andreas are inevitable. The gore is there, the driving, the police, the weapons etc etc.. To me, this game is as good as GTA. The controls are very similar and easy to use, no dislocated fingers to be had here. I've only played a small amount of the game, but ut's difficult to put down. As with GTA, you have several options at any one time regarding the progress you want to make.

* You can accept a mission from the Corleone family (this is the main aim of the game - you progress through the ranks in the family)
* You can put pressure on the businesses and warehouses for protection
* You can become a contract killer
* You can also take over the businesses of the other 5 families in New York (this comes with obvious consequences!)
* You can hijack cash carrying vans and keep the loot
* Blow up safes in banks and take the money

There are cars to steal, street merchants to increase your ammo and there are even women dancing in their underwaer in my safehouse!! Although I've yet to find out what they do..

The size of the game is big, the map of NYC huge with plenty of things to keep you busy.
The range of transport isn't as vast as GTA, but it's a different era, so that's to be accepted. The main game follows some of the original film itself (Luca swims with the fishes, the horses head etc)

If you liked GTA:San Andreas, buy this. If not, buy this. It's a must have game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality, 15 Jun 2006

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game well took me by surprise, it is free roaming which alot of people including myself didnt get from looking at the cover. Like a 1940's gta, with a sick story line keeping you involved, you can extort, commit bank heists, and assasinations and that is outside of the main missions! There are 5 cities and similar rival gangs to take over and wipe out, which keeps you going for a while. I like the customization of your character including looks and aparrell, this adds a touch of class to the game, and you can change his sharpness as he moves from an outsider to a capo all the way to don. This game is a quality buy, i paid about 20 quid and im chuffed. It could have had included more cars including customization, but that is about it, it has so many more pros so if your a gta fan-include this game in your collection. IN A NUTSHELL GET IT!!
