Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Preview

Even amongst EA’s own stable of titles, Burnout is regarded by many as the best arcade racer of them all and this fourth iteration, subtitled Revenge, looks like being a solid addition to the line. It seems to have wisely realised that the best bit in any of the Burnout games is the amount of destruction you can cause as you race and that all that winning a race malarkey is almost a secondary concern.

A new revenge meter tracks exactly how much damage you cause as you play skittles with traffic and try to cause as big a pile-up as possible--an activity that is encouraged even further in the new Traffic Attack mode. The actual revenge of the title though comes into play when you prang a specific rival one too many times and they start to take a personal interest in seeing your car go up in flames.

Although it doesn’t seem as if the graphics have changed all that much since the last game the level design has certainly become more inventive with huge multi-layer track layouts reminiscent of arcade classic Rave Racer--tearing along an overpass to fall vertically down three levels straight onto an opponent’s bonnets is pretty special.

Although surviving any of the game’s crashes would be impossible in real-life it has become slightly more realistic in other areas with more car deformation than before and real cities, including Detroit, Rome and Tokyo. Whether the appallingly annoying DJ from the last game is still in it though remains to be seen…--Harrison Dent

This preview is based on an incomplete version of the game; features or problems mentioned above may not appear in the finished game.

Manufacturer's Description

This time it's not about winning. It's not about riding on dubs or gaudy neon lights. It's about an utter disregard for the rules of road and total domination. This time it's personal. This time it's about revenge.

The sequel to 2004's racing game of the year, Burnout Revenge straps gamers into the fastest, most dangerous racer on the road. Fight dirty or go down in flames - the only rule is complete automotive anarchy. Built for unprecedented destruction, Burnout Revenge challenges gamers to exact their revenge on rush hour traffic, vindictive rival racers and anything else that gets between them and the finish line.

Featuring multi-level tracks designed for fighting, wicked vertical takedowns, explosive new crashbreakers, new gameplay modes and wide open crash courses for epic crash sequences that put Hollywood to shame, Burnout Revenge redefines speed and aggression for the ultimate in vehicular combat. And when gamers are ready to take their rage on the road, a massive suite of online modes and features open up endless possibilities to slam, shunt and stonewall new enemies all over the world. Happy hunting!

  • Revenge is Sweet: It's not about winning, it's about vengeance. An all-new revenge meter tracks underhanded tactics and leads gamers down the path to the ultimate payback. Fight dirty and be rewarded...
  • Check Traffic: Think hockey on the highway. Now every vehicle on the road is in play and a potential target or weapon. Ram traffic into your rivals, slam cars into vicious combo-based pile-ups and lay waste to everything in sight. Don't fear traffic fight it
  • Traffic Attack: An all-new traffic attack mode pits gamers against the clock in a mad dash for destruction. It's not about dodging traffic, it's about leveling it by any means necessary
  • Crash Redefined: Show Hollywood how it's done with all-new open-ended crash junctions. With multiple start points, complex, vertically-oriented tracks and hundreds of cars begging to be decimated, Burnout Revenge is the king of crash
  • Grudge Match: Punish a rival enough and they'll develop a grudge and then you'll need to take care of them personally in an all-new grudge match
  • Built to Battle: Designed for maximum carnage, Burnout Revenge's tracks are loaded with massive jumps, multiple paths and nasty chokepoints to deliver the ultimate brutal car combat. Vertical takedowns and in-race crashbreakers open up new avenues for destruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars New and awesome, 26 Sep 2005
I don't get it. All I keep seeing almost everywhere are user reviews moaning because this isn't like Burnout 3. Well, potential purchaser, that's absolutely right - this isn't Burnout 3, but that's the point. This is an evolved version of the racer, and you'll either love it or hate it. The big difference here is the traffic checking syste, Basically this means that you can knock small and medium sized traffic on your side of the road out of the way. This is what seems to have caused all the fuss, as many users are saying that this makes the game too easy, and Burnout is all about watching the road or crash and burn. However, you still crash if you hit large same-way traffic or anything thats coming at you or side on. So burning the wrong way down a highway to get that boost is still as glorious as ever. Only now we've got better graphics, unbelievably well-designed tracks with multiple routes and mind-blowing jumps, evil AI that just won't forget your last takedown and a whole host of other beauties.

Not Burnout 3, but Burnout Revenge. A new and different game.

This has to be one of the best racing games of all time, graphics, cars, tracks are so good. Some cars look a little similar, but there are so many cars it doeasn't matter. It's easy to control so its fun for all ages. Horrific (in a good way) of crashes are the coolest. Don't go on it if your scared of crashing though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Burnout: Revenge [XBOX], 28 Nov 2005
This game can be summed up in just a few words.

    Fantastic,
    must buy,
    get it now,
    wicked,

    to name but a few

If you have ever played any of the other versions of Burnout, you'll love this even more, the interface is slightly different, but the tasks are the same.

There is even a new takedown. Vertical takedown!!

It's all good, from start to finish and it has one hell of a sound track to accompany it too.

    I rate it tops!
