Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Panzer Elite Action follows the story of three tank commanders and their crew.

The German commander, flushed with the success of the Blitzkrieg in Poland and France, moves on to the Eastern Front and the brink of victory with the taking of Stalingrad.

We meet the Russian commander in desperate straits as he helps defend Stalingrad, and follow him as the tide turns against the Germans and he joins the massive tank battle of Kursk.

The American commander enters the war on the Normandy Beachhead on D-Day. After the struggle for the Bocage, he survives the doomed gamble to take Arnheim, defends the German outbreak at the Battle of the Bulge, and then drives on to the victorious crossing of the Rhine.

Throughout, the missions develop the Band-of-Brothers theme that brings out the special bond formed by comrades-in-arms in the heat of battle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed, 19 Jul 2006

Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
I am a big fan of "Panzer Front" on the PSOne, so when in November 2005 I saw this was coming out I pre-ordered it hoping it would be similar to PF on the PS2. After several release delays I received this game in July 2006 and what an absolute disappointment it has turned out to be. First and foremost this is NOT a tank sim, its nothing but a shoot em up...in a tank. The graphics although better than PF, havnt made the most of the more powerful PS2 and are frankly a bit weak. When your tank is destroyed the effects are a bit laughable. Sound effects are absolutely diabolical, with Panzer Front on the old PSOne giving it more than a run for its money. But its gameplay where this really falls down. As I said this is just a shoot em up, The enemy tanks will attack you en mass and cannot destroy you without hitting you at least 15 - 20 times, whereas one or two shots from you destroys them instantly, also you have 4 other tanks that follow you around and kill a lot of enemies for you. In panzer Front one well aimed shot from an enemy tank and it was game over, just as it would be in the real world. Also in P.E you can "Heal" your tank and replenish your ammo, of which you only have 1 type of shell.Unlike PF where if your tank got damaged you became immobile, you also had a choice of about 3 shells, High Ex, Armor piercing etc. Trying to control the tank is just downright infuriating, it is really hard to get it to go where you want it to, when you try and turn quickly the tank just spins on the spot, the game has an "easy drive" option but I couldnt see any difference at all.
The main gripe I have with this game is you cannot look through the gun sights. Outside view and Binoculars only. In PF you could look through your sights, alter range of shells and indeed fire your gun, much more fun, and more importantly more realistic.
This game is also far far too easy, I put it on normal level and have completed half of the 18 missions and only got killed once, and that was because I went into a minefield!. I doubt I will even put it back on to complete the game as its far to repetitive.
If you enjoy just killing loads of enemies without any danger to yourself you may enjoy this, I say may, because you only have one weapon! It does get boring.
If its realism your after, try and get a copy of Panzer Front on the PSOne. An older game, with slightly square graphics, but superior to Panzer Elite in just about every way.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, 31 Jul 2006

This game is a real disappointment. It's too easy and gets boring very quickly. Aiming is basic - you point the crosshair in the general direction of an enemy vehicle and once the cursor goes green you hit R1 and the enemy is destroyed. The constant comments from your crew members in the most ridiculous German accent (like the corporal in the BBC comedy 'Allo 'Allo) is just plain daft. Save your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Panzer Elite.
I think that what everyone misses out here is the fact that this is not a tank sim. It may pretend to be a real all action tank battle but it is not. Read more
