5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 24 May 2006
By Mr. S. J. New "pierrevanconko" (Lincs, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I didn't know what to expect with this album when I bought it, except that it was going to be wildly different from his earlier work. After hearing this its hard to believe his roots lay in downtempo electronica. Fink's 'Biscuits for Breakfast' is to my mind an English Jose Gonzales 'Veneer' and with his undesputed success of late, this is certainly no bad thing. This album largely comprises of his voice with an accompanying guitar; hense the obvious comparison. There is no weak track on this album, every listen swaying me to a new favourite tune. I feel compelled to spread the word about this album to ensure he writes another of the same ilk. I would be amazed if anyone was disappointed after buying this, so wait no longer and treat your ears to his fantastic sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not jose gonzales, 20 Oct 2006
By Matthew Flynn (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I think to label this album as being the english version of jose gonzales is a bit like saying baseball is the same as cricket because a 'ball' is hit with a 'bat'.

Yes, it is for the most part a guy and a guitar, but finks electro and dub influences do shine through. And it is this that makes him stand out from people like jose, and ray lamontagne and whoever else.

I've only listened to jose's and ray's albums once through because there was nothing there that hooked me to go back for more. I think my stereo is fed up playing Fink's 'Biscuits For Breakfast', because it has been played pretty much non stop since it's release.

Fink's sound has depth in it's minimalism. It's not reliant on the basic accoustic chords that you've heard for years to fill out the songs. At the same time it appears to be easy listening, but also intriguing and layerful enough for you to want to listen closer.

A tad short in length, but it's left me with high hopes for a new release. I wouldn't be shocked if he went back to his electro/dub roots, but i hope he keeps his songwriting ability up there too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous, mefinks..., 24 Oct 2006
By Stephen Tymruk "mr.steff the accordion" (Falmouth, Cornwall, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Came across this by chance over drinks with a new house-mate (thanks Adam). Wonderfully sparse blues - beautifully recorded. Fink's fragile and tender muses put me in mind of John Martyn and Emiliana Torrini, same kind of feel and sentimental vibe. I was hooked by the fourth or fifth listen...

I don't need to be 'in the mood' to listen to this album, and I don't have to skip past any tracks. From start to finish, I love it! Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Fink!!!
The first four or five tracks are top draw especially the Alison Moyet cover, but a little weak towards the end. Good addition to any CD collection though worth buying.
