Amazon.co.uk Review

No one in the 1980s had his finger on the pulse of gizmo-crazy adolescent boys like producer Glen Larson, creator of Battlestar Galactica and Manimal. But the peak of Larson's particular genius has to be Knight Rider, the love story of an absurdly handsome man and his absurdly indestructible car. Former detective Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff, later to achieve worldwide media dominance with Baywatch) zooms across the U.S. in K.I.T.T., a supercharged talking Trans Am with an impenetrable shell and the catty voice of William Daniels (St. Elsewhere). From the Las Vegas desert to the Louisiana bayou, Michael and K.I.T.T. solve crimes and help the downtrodden with the aid of a multi-million-dollar corporation run by dapper Devon Myles (Edward Mulhare) and mechanic/secretary/nanny April Curtis (Rebecca Holden, who took over from Patricia McPherson for the second season only).

The first season was goofy camp from the start, but the second turned even more giddily ridiculous: K.I.T.T. developed supersensors, telekinesis, and the ability to drive on water; plots included amnesia, super attack helicopters, a desperately needed transplant for a sick girl, and a supremely cheesy evil-twin storyline featuring Garthe Knight, son of the multimillionaire who gave Michael his identity-changing facial surgery, played by Hasselhoff with a mustache, soul patch, and even more luxuriant hair. In one episode, Michael goes "undercover" as the lead singer of a rock band, allowing Hasselhoff to flaunt his beloved-in-Germany vocal stylings. Of special note is an episode featuring Geena Davis (future Oscar-winner for The Accidental Tourist) as the daughter of a cat burglar, perhaps the only episode with a love interest as cartoonishly good-looking as Hasselhoff himself. This is definitive trash television, the kind of empty calories that, for some viewers, are irresistibly tasty. For Knight Rider fans, Season Two is a feast. --Bret Fetzer

Synopsis

One of the most popular action shows of the early 1980s, Knightrider inspired a devoted following because of its high-tech premise and the appeal of star David Hasselhoff. Hasselhoff plays Michael Knight, a former cop who is paired with KITT, an indestructible car with numerous special functions, including artificial intelligence. Michael and KITT roam the country, righting wrongs and stopping criminal plots. This collection includes all the episodes from the second season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Season 2 Knight Rider, without the optional extras, 11 Jul 2005
By Dave (Hampshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
How long have we waited for this season 2 to come out, especially after season 1, late last year.

With Rebecca Holden coming into the series, this season adds more spice (can I say more)and more personality from KITT (well what more can you expect from a talking car).

Along the way, there are some classic episodes including A Good Knights Work, Brothers Keeper, Return To Cadiz, Kitt The Katt, Goliath Returns and ending with Big Iron.

Yes, there are some disappointing episodes such as Mouth Of The Snake, which after all these years I still don't get it!

Disappointingly, there are no extra's with the DVD, including the day in the life of David H's stuntman or photo gallery of Rebecca Holden etc....doh! however the sight of her over Kitt's bonnet after Kitt had gone water skiing in Return to Cadiz (aka Kitt in a bath tub), would send any of my systems into tradectory......

Yes...all these episodes have been seen many times over on C5 and Bravo...however the excitement (sad as it seems) waiting for the first episodes on Thursday evening at 7pm, still holds memories. The first ever episode I saw on ITV was Brothers Keeper and the turo boost into and out of the prison is classic.
However after all my calculations and the speedometer on Kitt, I still cannot work out how they did "45 miles in 8 minutes" at the end.

I hope Season 3 follows in due course and please give us a bit more with this one.....

5.0 out of 5 stars The best season, 10 Aug 2006
Season 2 was my fave season of the show. I think the addition of a gorgeous redhead in the fine form of April Curtis got my heart pumpin'! Even when I was a kid!

Most of the storylines were better than Season 1, which IMO had more of a military bent. There's Goliath and Goliath Returns, the second being far superior and darker than the first. In both cases, David Hasselhoff plays both Michael Knight AND Garthe Knight (aka "evil Michael Knight"). Though, sometimes he was better at playing Garthe than Michael!

Other compelling storylines include Soul Survivor, where the Knight2000 is stolen and the AI removed, and Knightmares, where Michael has a bout of amnesia and must get to grips with his current situation.

The picture quality and audio are still brilliant (though not excellent). Features: nothing. No little extras, pics or commentaries! Season 1 had excellent extras but Universal let us down here. Booo!

Still, the fact that there's a redhead on the show more than made up for it. Just wish April has stayed for at least another season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great season of the best show of the 80's!, 13 Jun 2006
Just got my copy of Knight Rider Season 2, from Amazon of course (unbeaten price!), and it definitely didn't disappoint.

There are several great episodes, and quite a few feature length episodes included - Goliath, Golitah Returns, Mouth of the Snake...... 21 episodes in total. Goliath has to be my favourite episode, as i remember seeing it when it originally aired back in the 80's, so it brings back a lot of great memories!

This is also the season that Rebecca Holden made her one and only appearance as April, adding an extra sense of sex appeal to the show, pity it was just for this one season! Definitely a welcome addition to the show (well, for the male fans at least!!).

The only downsides to this box set are there are no bonus features, no intro cut scenes and no original air dates. None of these are vital however so there's really not much to gripe about. I have heard some complaints about missing sound effects in some episodes, i have only noticed this in the episode "Diamonds aren't a girl's best friend", for the first 5 or so minutes when Kitt is driving along. The sound effects are actually still there, but at a very low volume level so you can't hear them unless you concentrate on them. This is the only episode i have noticed it on however, so i would'nt say it's a big deal.

Overall, a worthy addition to any Knight Rider fan's collection, despite having more downsides and less bonus features than the Season 1 boxset - they are overshadowed by the great episodes that are included. It'll surely keep you busy for a long time!
