5.0 out of 5 stars The key match of the 2004/5 season, 18 April 2006
With Chelsea having bought the Premiership title (and rendered it meaningless), this was one of only two matches which really mattered in the Season 2004/5, the other being Liverpool's Champions' League Final win over AC Milan. Here, England's two biggest clubs did battle for a trophy reinstated as the most important in English football. Plus for once between the 'big two' tactics prevailed over blood and guts, Arsene Wenger deploying for the first time on the big stage the 4-5-1 formation which he has since used to take Arsenal to the brink of their first Champions' League win. In doing so, he reminded all English football fans that pockets full of money can only buy so much success and can't buy respect, recognition or admiration.

1.0 out of 5 stars English football's death throes, 16 Jul 2005
Arsenal and Manchester United slug it out in half hearted fashion for the season's booby prize, whilst Chelsea sit back safe in the satisfaction that their massive financial clout will ensure that they dominate the increasingly predictable English Championship for as long as Roman Abramovic sticks around.

Thrill as Arsene Wenger's tactical naivety becomes evident, isolating Denis Bergkamp in a Duncan Ferguson-style 'lighthouse' role to which he is unaccustomed and ill-equipped. Grip the edge of your seats as Manchester United's mega-rich mercinaries are so distracted by the thought of the imminent salary squeeze under the incumbent Glazier administration that they fail to break down Arsenal's rickety defence. Gasp at the sheer brass neck of Ashley Cole's badge-kissing antics and wonder if Alex Ferguson is too scared of Roy Keane to tell him that he was washed up two seasons ago.

And next season promises to be even more tedious, as the competition to accrue vast sums of cash hots up...
