Good Game and Seriously Underated, 26 Sep 2005
The reviews I read before buying this game (here and elsewhere) almost put me off buying - I'm so glad I went ahead and bought it anyway.Brotherhood of the Blade is a massive what I call hunt 'n' slash RPG. From the start you get to choose one of 4 character types which is great as they have male AND female types to choose from (how sick do I get always having to play a male!) and so I went for the alchemist who starts off a little weak put becomes seriously powerful later in the game due to her ability to cast magic. Basically the game works like this: you get given quests to undertake by various characters in the game, you solve the quest which normally means hunting down people or things and killing lots in your path and then you move on to the next quest. Along the way you pick up or buy new weapons, armour and potions etc to improve your character. Many reviews have slated this game for being very linear and, yes, in a sense it is because you basically get told where to go and you go off and complete that quest. This has a positive side - if you hate getting stuck in RPGs and you don't have a clue what you're meant to be doing next, this game would suit you perfectly as it does at least point you in the right direction. But really the game is as linear as you want to make it because there is literally so much to explore. The different areas are vast and some areas are neatly concealed which adds to the interest when you discover them - tip don't always go by the map! PROS OF GAME: graphically very nice indeed and detailed over large landscapes, sound effects are great and really add to the atmosphere, this is a huge game with masses to explore, see and do before you can complete it. There are no other games like this available on the PSP right now! CONS OF GAME: music can be a bit annoying at times but there is a mute button, it's a good game but there will be better RPGs coming to the PSP though I would recommend getting this while you wait! Overall I think this has been underated - it is a solid good game, not going to win RPG of the year award for innovation but it's still good and I would buy it!
