Having heard the track 'The Gossips Complaint' on Radio 3, I wondered what more delights this CD had in store, and I was not disappointed. This music is from an age where people lived fast and for the moment, as death was always ever present. If such songs were released today, the censors would ban them. This is worth buying if you are a historian of 17th history or enjoy listening to past songs of merriment

A fine collection of bawdy songs, well performed and sounding as fresh as the day they were first sung. Lucie Skeaping, the Radio 3 presenter, has long championed English crudety and carrousing in the form of folk songs and is represented here. She has performed with The Broadside Band and The City Waites, and has made a great contribution to the genre. "A Golden Treasury of Georgian Music", "Bawdy Songs of D'Urfey", "Songs & Dances from Shakespeare - The Broadside Band", "Pills to Purge Melancholy" and "English National Songs" should be on the CD list of everyone who enjoys this disc.
