4.0 out of 5 stars Great series: flawed DVD..., 4 Aug 2005
By P. White (Cambridge, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
GITS:SAC is a great Anime series and volume 4 has one of the best episodes: especially if you're a fan of Tachikomas! However this release is badly let down by the DVD mastering. On all versions of the soundtrack (DD/DTS/Stereo) there is a 0.5 second synchronisation delay between the audio and video. Likewise on all versions there is a major set of clicks and dropouts near the start of the first episode and sporadic dropouts thereafter. Manga Entertaiment should be ashamed to have released the discs in this state (volumes 1-3 are perfect) but as there is no other region 2 release you are stuck with it if you want to collect the series. I only hope that the remaining volumes are not so afflicted. This is a superb series and this volume would have got 5 stars were it not for the sloppy work by Manga Ents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Episodes 13 to 16, 19 Mar 2007
By T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
The four episodes in this volume continue the great series with some great thoughtful episodes as well as action episodes. Episode 13 sees Section 9 attempt to rescue a girl missing for sixteen years and appears to have not ages a day. The episode has some great action, has an interesting storyline and a good twist at the end. Episode 14 has an anti-capitalist assassin hunting down a reclusive billionaire and again has some brilliant ideas and a story far better than most. Episode 15 is has far less action that the others and concentrates on the Tachikoma tanks that Section 9 uses and their increasingly erratic behaviour. The last episode of this volume focuses on Batou and has him going undercover to investigate one of his personal heroes suspected of leaking sensitive information. All the episode in this volume are greatly interesting to watch and show how much better this series is better than anything produced by the west.

5.0 out of 5 stars Note for people renting this DVD set, 31 Dec 2005
A note of clarification for anyone renting this DVD set from Amazon. Despite what they have named the separate DVDs, BOTH DISCS 1 AND 2 CONTAIN ALL 4 EPISODES. Disc 1 has DD 2.0 English and Japanese Stereo soundtracks, while disc 2 has DTS 5.1 English and Japanese and DD 2.0 English soundtracks. You will therefore only need to rent the relevant one for your audio set-up.
