4.0 out of 5 stars The Best New Prog Rock Band In Ages !, 17 Oct 2005
Received a tip off on this album from someone on a forum i`m a part of, so i took the gamble, i`m pleased i did this is Fantastic Great stuff !! OK it`s not as over indulgent as many of the new type of Prog bands but that`s no bad thing. This is not the Flower Kings. You will not sit there listening to it thinking Christ this goes on a bit !! OK about the album.......
The band are a 5 piece. They use real Melotrones & Hammond organs etc. They use big vocals [ lots of harmonies etc. very reminicent of Spocks Beard ] But unlike SB they don`t over indulge song wise. The songs are all short`sh 4 mins to 8 mins long but there all good you will walk away singing them all. The guitar sounds are great power sounding perfecty counter balanced with the keyboards. The opener " Peace among the ruins" is a great thumping beast of an opener. "The Fringes" has a very early Genesis type of feel to it. "Seasons" is a catchy tune that`ll have you singing the chorus long after the tracks finished. "Find the time" & "Speed of time" are both great moody pieces, with SOT having some great ELP overtones to it ! Great Stuff ! " Sunshine" has a lovely indian type opening sounds surprisingly like a cross between Oasis & Hawkwind !!! Next up is "Slave" another moody passionate track, full of menace. Last up is "Bringin`it on" again a great moody peice a nice acoustic intro before opening up into a great song big chords, big vocals, stunning. If you check out these guys Web site www.prestobalet.com, you`ll find there are 3 aditional tracks that they recorded at the same time they recorded the Album, to be honest they shoud`ve included 2 out of those 3 songs on this album. The brilliant catchy "Gypsy Road" & "Surprise" should`ve been included !! infact the reason i havn`t given this a 5 star review is because these 2 songs don`t appear on the album ! But don`t let this fact detract from this review, if you like good solid Rock music with big sounds & great song writing, big vocals then this is a must. BUY NOW !!!!!
