Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Inspired by the American public that Dave Grohl met on the trail while campaigning for John Kerry during the 2004 US Election campaign, In Your Honour could easily have fallen flat, a casualty of George W Bush’s triumphant return to the Whitehouse. That it isn’t is thanks to Grohl’s garrulous enthusiasm and skill for songs that vibrate with Everyman optimism – after all, who else in rock could snarl a line like "It’s a shame we have to die my dear/ No-one’s getting out of here alive" ("DOA") and still sound like they’re beaming from ear to ear?

Sprawling across two CDs – one ‘rock’, one ‘acoustic’ – In Your Honour perhaps suffers from the overarching ambitions common to the double album format: despite gems like "Hell" and "The Last Song", the first disc is a little one-paced to hold your attention to the end. The acoustic disc, however, is a surprisingly eclectic success. "Friend Of A Friend", written back in 1992 while Grohl was still drumming in Nirvana, broods with a dark intensity, while the presence of guests Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones and chanteuse Norah Jones – who duets with Grohl on gently intriguing lounge-jazz number "Virginia Moon" - lend In Your Honour an intriguing extra dimension. --Louis Pattison

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album but not one of their best, 17 Jun 2005

Firstly, this version appears to ba pan-european limited edition and as such doesn't include the 11th track on cd1 which is a shame..

Tracks like The Last Song seem to recycle riffs already employed on One By One but it's a Foos album.. its eclectic and Dave Grohl rocks :)

4.0 out of 5 stars The best yet?, 23 Jun 2005
All is right with the world- a new Foo Fighters double album is here- and its a terrific effort. Some reviews have been a bit sniffy, especially with reference to disc 2 (but more of that later). Disc 1 contains some of the heaviest stuff they have ever done and Dave screams his heart out to within an inch of the life of his larynx (warning- singing along with this lot in the car will wreck your voice!). No weak tracks at all with No Way Back, DOA and Free Me noteworthy highlights. If this was the album in its entirety it would go down as a (albeit a bit short) classic.
Now, disc 2 steps things down but there's much to enjoy although it could be accused of being a tad self-indulgent (check out Virginia Moon as a case in point) but Dave should be commended for not sitting back and taking the easy route. Some may be alienated while it might open up a new audience. As disc 2 doesn't have quite the cohesion of disc 1 it means only 4 stars overall but highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good solid album but where's the bonus track, 16 Jun 2005
The idea of splitting the album into 2 different styles works quite well. You kinda have 2 individual albums. After the first listens both cds sound good and they are a definite improment over the last 2 albums. Thumps up for FF.

BUT where's the promised bonus track? I would have gotten this version cheaper from the store next door, but I bought this from Amazon in order to get the bonus track.
