I HAD a copy of this on CD and then I LOST it. THEN the company which released it took it out of the catalogue. And the people who HAD the copies were certainly not going to part with them. THEN it was re-released and I have just ordered another copy online.
It is a remarkable recording of what must be the most exhibitionistic opera EVER. Jommelli and the conductor Rousset take the singer, put them on the edge of a cliff, pushes them, and we get to hear them scream all the way down. Malas-GOdzlewska has an ice cold but musical voice, capable of some pretty savage coloratura. Brua is either a low soprano or a high high mezzo but either way she is stunning, very fluent in the coloratura but even throughout the range. The 'supporting' cast is starry, with Veronique Gens and Patricia Petibon almost stealing the show.
The chances of seeing a performance of this piece live with a cast like this are remote to say the least, but this recording is as good as we're gonna get,
BUY it.
