This is the most extraordinary rendition of vocal technique and sheer musicality in my entire 5000+ CD collection. These two great artists explore the dephts of the soul of the poems, and
give us one of the most remarkable recordings of art songs released in recent years. Having the composer at the keyboard
certainly gives the CD a wonderful touch of authenticity. Bolcom is a very strong partner, as his wonderful recordings with his wife, Joan Morris, have proven over the years. Carole Farley,
according to Bolcom's liner notes, is the one who chose the repertoire for this new recording, and she wisely selected songs not necessarily associated with Ms. Morris, but chose instead songs that suit her own style and strenghs. The result is a spectacular collaboration. I can'put that recording away. New
discoveries are made every time I loisten to it. The songs cover a great variety of spectrum, over 40 years of Bolcom's output.
Carole Farley, who recently gave us a lavish, warm-hearted rentidion of the Cuban-American composer Ernesto Lecuona's songs
on the BIS label, sounds better than ever on the Bolcom CD. Our wish is to hear this incredibly versatile artist again in Richard Strauss lieder, or in another volume of Tchaikowsky arias. Some more Kurt Weill perhaps?
