Product Description

CD Description

Debut album from young Canadian singer songwriter. Thwartedby dyslexia in his childhood quest to become a classical violinist, he turned to the piano and pop songwriting. His album, full of radio friendly, piano driven adult pop, has echoes of soft rock acts such as Coldplay, Maroon 5 and Gavin DeGraw. Produced by Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Maria McKee, Crowded House) and Powter's longterm collaborator Jeff Dawson, it includes the single 'Bad Day'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliance in a cd box, 10 Aug 2005
By A Customer
I bought this album for a friend but was so desperate to listen to it that I went out and bought my own copy, and I wasn't disappointed. Right from the start of the album it's full of quirky lyrics, with an exciting musical side to it as well. People have compared this artist to James Blunt, and even though I am a huge fan of James Blunt and am going to see him live in October I have to say that Daniel Powter is just so much better! Some people have claimed that James Blunt is very samey and gets boring after a while, but there is no way that this could be said about Daniel. There is a brilliant use of instruments, making the music seem alive and in your face. It is great fun to listen to. I would recommend this album to anyone who has a music taste, and I won't be surprised when Daniel Powter gets the number one that he so obviously deserves after writing such an amazing album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucky find!, 26 Jul 2005
By Mr. P. J. Sheppard "Fyrebird" (Brighton UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Whilst having a look on some download sites for some new music I stumbled across this album and had a quick listen to see if worth purchasing. Blimey, what a lucky find. The ingredients are Coldplay, Elton John, James Blunt with a little bit of Jake from the Scissor Sisters thrown in and DA DAH!! You have Daniel Powter. On the first play the tunes stay with you and with no fillers on the track listing its a quality album. I really dont know alot about this guy but i really hope he makes it big over here in the UK and with the release of his single Bad Day, which is gorgeous he should be a name to stay with us for some time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic from the first to last song, 8 Oct 2005
Whenever I buy a new album it takes me a few listens to like it, but I enjoyed this one right away. From the very first song, 'Song 6', it's clear that Daniel Powter is extremely talented and the rest of the album is just as good. It's a song that reminds me of summer, of just lying lazing around. The next song, 'Free Loop' is just as good and slightly more lively, with his suceesful single, 'Bad Day' after that. This song is more 'pop' than the other songs - in an interview Daniel Powter said he felt this was the one which was least expressive for him as an artist. However, it's still a good song, with a catchy chorus. 'Suspect' is a good one to play really loudly, as it is slightly rockier. 'Lie To Me' is a funky ballad, followed by quieter, but still lovely 'Jimmy Gets High'. 'Styrofoam' is also quite ballad-like, followed by one of my favourites, 'Hollywood'. The sound for that one is quite hard to describe, it's quite a strong beat, with fantastic music that makes me want to dance along. The last two songs on the album' 'Lost On The Loop', and 'Give Me Life' are softer songs but which still have catchy tunes.

Overall, I think the album is fantastic. I love all the songs - it's not an album where any tracks need to be skipped. My absolute favourites would have to be 'Song 6', 'Suspect' and 'Hollywood'. I would definitely recommed this album, as it is absolutely amazing and is definitely worth buying.
