4.0 out of 5 stars Honour among thieves, 21 Jan 2007
By Trevor Willsmer (London, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Farewell Friend aka Adieu L'Ami/Honour Among Thieves isn't perfect but it is a neat and entertaining thriller that sees mismatched demobbed French Algerian War veterans Alain Delon and Charles Bronson trapped in the same basement vault, one to return stolen bonds, the other to clean out the two million in wages sitting there over the Christmas weekend. Naturally things aren't quite that simple even after they open the vault, leading to some neat twists and turns. On the debit side, there's a very bizarre striptease scene in a car park, Bronson has a very irritating Fonzie-like catchphrase he uses at the most inopportune moments, Brigitte Fossey, sporting perhaps the most hideously misconceived hairstyle of the 60s (it makes her look like a bald woman whose wig is blown back off the top of her head by a high wind), is something of a liability - her "I'll cook spaghetti! I'll learn to make love well! I'll read Shakespeare!" speech is hysterical in all the wrong ways - and it's a shame about the horrible last line/shot, but otherwise this is a surprisingly entertaining and unpretentious number that's worth checking out if you can find a decent print.

Cinema Club's UK DVD only offers the English soundtrack, but since Delon voices himself and the rest of the cast are fairly well dubbed that's no great problem, especially since the widescreen transfer is pretty good quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bronson in the Zone, 11 Feb 2006
Very a-typical Charles Bronson movie. Chuck is thief in this off-beat, comedic drama. He is in great shape, form and is just coming into that Bronson Swagger we all enjoyed for so many years. This is not Death Wish or Kinjite or some other action shoot-em-up flick, but it is a fun, enjoyable way to blow a couple of hours watching a very under-rated actor hone his craft. Thumbs Up!

1.0 out of 5 stars delon and a melon ( farmer ), 13 Aug 2005
By A Customer
bronson and delon are a mis matched pair in this poorly made mess, the dialogue is banal and the story dull and totally lacking in suspense.bronson's role is semi comic,he's given a catchphrase-he says "yeaahh!" in fonzie-like tones several times during the film to no effect.a vapid european co production from the late 60's,it relies solely on bronson and delon's charisma for effect, with no worthwhile script/plot or direction to support them the film is instantly forgettable.the dvd cover might lead you to think the film is noir-ish a la melville, trust me it aint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget the cheap copies go with this, Bronson Euro movie.
A crystal clear wide screen copy of a very unusual movie. Never really sure who the bad guys are, maybe they both are. Read more
