5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!, 13 Jan 2006

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I was put off when I saw this in my local record shop by the price £20.99 as I am a bit of a budget music buyer. The Stumu Yamashta’s Go LP was a regular item in the local second hand record shop (Groucho's in Dundee, where I grew up) when it was release and it was there that I bought it shortly after it came out and loved it. Many of my friends thought it weird and too eclectic. To my ears this is its strength. I have read another iPod random story in the Independent today that praises that device for surprising changes of mood it offers when the listener does not know what is coming next. This album does this by itself! So imagine my delight when I saw this CD on Amazon for half this price, including postage and shipped all the way from Austalia!

It has been some years since I lost my original copy of Go and I had not heard Go Too. This is great as well although I would have preferred the continued presence of Steve Winwood. But again once I gave it a few listens I have grown to love this too. With a stellar line up like this many might be disappointed that the elements that they wanted a particular member to bring were not present but give it just a little time and it pays off in spades. I guess this is what all those people who ditche the Go LP in Groucho’s failed to do al, those years ago. This is far more than the sum of its parts, Yamashta’s writing is superb and I would urge anyone who wants some real music to give it a go and at a bargain price. Having heard this now I would gladly pay the full price that I originally saw. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Go" with "Go Live from Paris" plus "Go Too", 24 Sep 2005
Try to imagine Tangerine Dream jamming with the rhythm section from Santana, or Weather Report with Steve Winwood on vocals. What sort of albums would Miles Davis have produced if he'd recruited his mid-70's electric band from Japan rather than the West ? And what kind of music would Stravinsky have come up with if he'd had synthesizers ? Now that this landmark recording has been reissued, there's no need to wonder. It's all here ! The result is a work of genius and an A&R man's nightmare. How would you market an album featuring English soulboy Stevie Winwood, Santana's Michael Shrieve and the guitar-player from Return to Forever with Klaus Schulze's Mega-Moog and orchestral arrangements by 20th century classical composer Paul Buckmaster ? - especially if the project is fronted by a Japanese percussionist from the radio unfriendly avant-garde. Full marks to Raven Records, then, for reissuing this set after twenty-five years of undeserved obscurity. Although the music still defies classification, it stands the test of time. Steve Winwood is in top form, Al DiMeola never played with more passion than on these sessions and Stomu himself couldn't scale such heights again-as "Go Too" proved. The original 1976 "Go" album is a classic but sounds almost sedate compared with the storming live versions of "Crossing the Line", "Ghost Machine" and "Man of Leo" which follow, when the band really stretches out and lets rip. The songs are catchy, melodic and soulful, allowing plenty of scope for improvisation, while the instrumental interludes range from dreamy to dramatic. Maybe the reverb-drenched production and boomy bass could have been remastered a bit better but who cares ? Turn out the lights, still the chattering mind, and enjoy this music on its own uncompromising terms.

Had the original GO album years ago. What a bonus getting another copy, together with the Live and Go Too albums.

Simply one of the most melodic well structured enjoyable records ever
