Sammo Hung directs and stars in this martial arts actioner. In the small town of Hanshui, members of the local police rob a bank and plan to make their getaway on the glamorous new express train. They are pursued by the townspeople, led by the Fire Chief and a mysterious stranger, who has his own plans to stop the train in order to bring in trade for his newly established hotel/brothel. Once the train has been brought to a standstill near the town, a gang of brigands arrive with plans to rob everyone.

Action superstar Sammo Hung ('Encounters Of The Spooky Kind') plays Ching Fong-Tin, a wanted man who returns to his home town only to find that its population is waning. In an attempt to try and repopulate it he prevents an oncoming train of millionaires and VIP's from going past it. Unfortunately some of the people on board are less than trustworthy, and when the town's Sheriff Tsao (Yuen Biao ['The Prodigal Son']) finds out about Ching's status, it could scupper his plans. But will Tsao be able to deal with that AND the unexpected trouble that's brewing within the town?
Featuring an all-star cast including (a) martial arts stars like Dick Wei, Hwang Jang Lee, Yukari Oshima ('The Story Of Ricky') in her debut, Shih Kien ('Enter The Dragon'), Chung Fat, Lam Ching-Ying, Richard Norton ('City Hunter'), Cynthia Rothrock ('China O'Brien'), Mang Hoi and Fan Mui-Sang ('Magnificent Butcher'); and (b) comedy stars/non-action performers like Eric Tsang ('My Lucky Stars'), Richard Ng ('Miracles'), Rosamund Kwan and Emily Chu; 'Millionaires Express' is a true gem of a movie, although some of the culture-specific comedy doesn't quite work for us Westerners (at least, it wouldn't, were it not for Bey Logan's audio commentary!). Fortunately the visual slapstick comedy, not to mention the stunning fight scenes, more than make up for this little shortfall. Sammo even gets to do a brief spoofing of Bruce Lee in a bit that shows that he alone is the best impersonator of the Little Dragon: no contest!
Other key moments include an insane stunt where Yuen Biao flips off the roof of a building and lands on the floor, and the shot continues with a zoom-in to show you it was him! This is the craziest stunt I've ever seen him do!

When it comes to martial arts movies, this one writes the book. A spectacular cast romp through a funny, inventive, breakneck tale of a Chinese gangster wannabe in the days of the warlords, trying to make his fortune and maybe save a few lives on the way. There is some comedy which a western audience might find inappropriate and some subject content you might not want your kids to see (for Instance, Sammo Hung's hero runs a brothel). But I'd recommend it to any fan of action and adventure, and especially kung fu. The visuals are amazing, the stunts eye-popping, and there is a truly jaw-dropping fight between Sammo Hung and Cynthia Rothrock that no fan of the genre should miss. Top quality sound and picture, too, and good extras.
