Stunning curves to rival the ipod!, 29 May 2005
I was so excited about getting this, a bit too much probably as I ended up checking the package's progress daily! It is my first mp3 after all and is was definitely a hard decision to make with the wide variety of products out there. However, after much deliberation of which mp3 player to buy (it was neck and neck between the Sony and the almighty ipod!) I decided to take the plunge and buy the Sony NWE507 1GB MP3 Walkman with FM Tuner - Pink. With all the hype of the ipod and now it being such a fashion icon, I was tempted, but something held me back, all the mixed reviews - about it getting scratched and of course the high price tag! Then a new SONY came along and you just know its gonna be a great product, I wasn't disappointed As soon as I opened the package I charged it up and started downloading all my CD's onto the Sonic Stage software it was rally easy to navigate, even without looking at the instructions. Though it took a fair while to upload my CD's once transferred onto the device the sound quality is excellent, personally I noticed no difference from my actual CD's to the mp3 tracks. It looks stunning so you don't need to be embarrassed when an ipod walks past because you know yours looks better! And it's in pink! Although the colour, is not exactly how it looks in the picture it is even better than that! It's a sort of metallic pink purple rather than what looks like a solid pastel pink (which was a nice surprise I know it's a stupid girlie thing to worry about aesthetics but there you go), The casing is great quality with no chance of scratching off the colour due to the strong acrylic case. The display is great too with 3 lit lines of text it even has a menu so you can go straight to an artist or playlist as long as you upload tracks in specific playlists. The radio is a nice extra feature to have with up to 30 presets, unfortunately it is automatically preset by the device but that doesn't matter too much - you get a bit of culture by discovering new radio stations at least ;-) It's got a hell of a lot more battery for your money, a whopping 40 hrs, and for the busy bees among us (or just disorganised bees like myself, not that I'm a bee...) it has a 3 minute charge = 3 hours playback feature, very handy indeed. The buttons are easy to use and all at the one end. It has a play/stop button on the front and volume up and volume down on either side, to switch to the next track you pull the lock cap up and twist it + to change track or - to go back to the beginning of the song. The only annoying things I have found with it so far are that you cant transfer playlists from windows media player (or if you can I haven't found out how to yet) .The headphones are really annoying, the right earphone cord is longer than the left, which is bad for me because if I only put one headphone in I like to tuck the other into my pocket so its not swinging about everywhere, (I'm using my old walkman headphones and they work fine) the supplied ones are also really short, although it does come with an extension so the choice is yours. Overall a great product, it's so nice to have something so small that you can just walk about, get up and sit down without having to carry around your CD player, or having to haul about 10 CD's around in your bag. It has been jammed in my ear ever since the day it arrived, I think I'm in love...
