3.0 out of 5 stars The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, 30 Jun 2009
By Mr. A. Barker (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The first thing you need to know before purchasing this set is that this is the Coliseum Video/Silver Vision Home Video version of Wrestlemania V and VI simply transferred to DVD. Nearly all matches with the exception the main events were cut shorter in order to fit a 4 hour event onto a 3 hour VHS tape. If you are looking for the full uncut versions of these events then you need to be looking at the Wrestlemania Anthology Series. However there is one annoying drawback with the Anthology versions and that is, although the action is uncut, a lot of the original theme music is edited out as are any references to "WWF".

Wrestlemania V

Wrestlemania V, as it was the year before, is held at the lifeless Trump Plaza and lacks any real atmosphere. The `89 event was however a tad stronger than its predecessor, although it once again suffered from having too many matches on the card.

The main event was the culmination of an excellent year long storyline as Randy Savage defended the WWF World Title against Hulk Hogan in a very good match and the best on the card. Savage was truly at his best around this time and this is widely regarded as one of Hogan's best matches in the WWF.

What else should you look out for? Well, the Intercontinental Title match is worth a look as Ravishing Rick Rude works his backside off in making the Ultimate Warrior look good before relieving him of the gold. ... The Rockers take on the Twin Towers in a classic battle of power versus speed. Check out Akeem's devastating clothesline on Shawn Michaels! ... Mr. Perfect and The Blue Blazer (Owen Hart) have a very good bout, although with the way it's been cut it looks like Blazer dominated a short match with Perfect escaping with a smash-and-grab victory. ... And the Brain Busters have a decent match with Strike Force.

The rest of the matches are passable (Hart Foundation vs. Honky Tonk Man & Greg Valentine) or awful (Jim Duggan vs Bad News Brown).

Wrestlemania VI

After the lack atmosphere in the previous two years, it finally feels like Wrestlemania again as the Toronto Sky Dome plays host for Wrestlemania VI in front of 67,678 screaming fans! The main event featured a match between the two biggest babyfaces in the industry as WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan took on Intercontinental Champion the Ultimate Warrior in a match where both titles were on the line. You really had to be a fan at the time to comprehend just how big Hulk Hogan versus Ultimate Warrior really was. Hogan was in the unfamiliar role of having to call the match (usually the heel's job) and carry his opponent. It turned out to be a very good match and one of the most famous in WWF/WWE history as the Warrior walked out with the one and only World Title of his career.

The rest of the card was pretty average unfortunately, although you wouldn't know by listening to the hot crowd! Ted Dibiase's Million Dollar Belt match with Jake Roberts was pretty decent, as was The Rockers' bout with the Orient Express but both matches suffered because of the lame finishes. Brutus Beefcake's surprise win over Mr. Perfect wasn't bad and Demolition's third World Tag Team Title win had the crowd roaring even if the action was pretty poor. The rest was filler and squash matches I'm afraid.

This match came about after the "Macho Man2 got jealous about Higan's relationship with the lovely Miss. Elizabeth! A great solid match!
