Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Was there ever a band that were more victims of media hype than Fischerspooner? Lauded and damned by the fickle music rags in almost the same week. However, those who kept the faith will be rewarded because Odyssey is actually very good.

On first listen, the album seems to retread some of the themes of debut album #1. However, repeat listens and immediate highlights like "Never Win" show that the hooks are bigger, the tunes are stronger, and the squelchy bits are squelchier- all of which adds up to a lush and enjoyable album. Fischerspooner may not win awards for their lyrics or vocals, but that's not what this is about. As far as modern-retro soundscapes go, this is a winner.

One could argue that the wealth of outside collaborations (Mirwais, Linda Perry, and producer Tony Hoffer) add a few stitches to the Emperor's New Clothes, but this is doing a disservice to strength of tunes that Fischerspooner have provided. And on this base, they've created a worthy sophomore effort. --Thom Allott

CD Description

Second album, following 2002's '#1', from camp New York "electroclash" duo whose music recalls the 80s synthpop sound of The Human League, Depeche Mode and Giorgio Moroder. Employing the talents of songwriter Linda Perry and French producer Mirwais, this more organic effort finds them sounding likea full band, adding a propulsive rock drive without losing any of their sleazy pop savvy. This limited edition featurestwo bonus tracks and the video for single 'Just Let Go'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still far more interesting than the majority, 1 April 2006

This is a well produced and intuitive record which builds on the work of the first album. I found it wasn't as endlessly listenable as the first, but still grows and changes as you listen more and more, which different tracks becoming your favourite with each listen. A lot going on beneath the surface. Utterly supberb for the car on a sunny day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album of the Year (so far), 17 Aug 2005
Fiscerspooner's first album (#1) was exactly what the genre of 'Electro' really needed to bring it into the limelight. That it did (to some extent). Odyssey takes it all to another level. This album is without a doubt the best all round Electronica album I have ever heard. Literally every song is beyond belief as they combine unique melody and bass with Spooner's distinct vocals. Quite simply a must for all.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Spring Clean', 15 April 2005
By A Customer
I was a big fan of Fisherspooner's #1 and in all honesty had only heard the most popular track 'Emerge' until about six months ago when I listened to the rest of their debut.

#1 had an unclean & dare I say it dirty feel about it.
Using the mix of synth, the occasional deep breath and climax of their songs to create a gritty 'here we are' feel about the album.

When I heard their latest album release 'Odyssey' I was shocked to find an altogether cleaner, more cohesive sound.
(Whether Fischerspooner are attempting to appeal to a wider audience with their latest, I'm not sure.)

This album is different but, change is not always a bad thing!

The first track 'Just Let Go' is most likely to be the most popular for listening and play in the club scene.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fischerspoonfull of good music
Like another reviewer, I was not overly impressed with the debut album - there are excellent remixes of Emerge and Invisible but they can't carry a whole album by themselves. Read more
