When I first listened to this disc, I wasn't expecting much, since Leyendecker is a completely new name to me (and many others). However, the music turned out to be among the finest I've ever heard.

Leyendecker creates amazing soundscapes with novel register spacing techniques (It really feels like flying in the 2nd movement of Symphony No. 3). The music is mostly atonal, but certainly not dodecaphonic, and there are occasional hints of tonality (e.g. the beginning of Symphony No. 3). There is plenty of emotion in the music, be it grief, calmness, or turbulence.

His palette of orchestral effects is colourful and rich. He also incorporates the saxophone and the guitar/mandolin into his orchestral scores, which seems to be a new trend in the evolution of the 21st century orchestra.

After several listenings, I became sure that Leyendecker is among my favourite composers. This is music that is modern, but easily accessible, since it conjures up vivid images and contains deeply felt emotions. I really hope that more people can discover this amazing music!
