Synopsis

Winner of the Award for Best Canadian Film at the Montreal Film Festival, 'Everyone' is the story of a gay couple whose impending marriage brings out the relationship problems in everybody around them. Ryan and Grant invite their families to the house for a small wedding ceremony, without realising that they all have an issue with themselves or with someone else. As Ryan and Grant are forced to deal with everyone else's children, infidelity, and mourning problems, they begin to wonder whether marriage is an option worth considering at all. 'Everyone' explores the difficulties of marriage by contrasting couples at various stages of matrimony.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting people-centred film, 27 Jun 2006
By Adam Wainwright "Aardvark" (Nottingham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are expecting a Tom Cruise type film don't even think about it. This film requires a modicum of thought on the side of the viewer.

This film is based around a two young men who are going to get married. As they bring their families together we see that all people, gay and straight, have issues. And usually at any one point in a couple's life there are a few biggies. Some of the issues are resolved, others are not. Those of us who like our films neatly tied up at the end will not be too happy about this.

This film shows that gay or straight we're all the same underneath. It was an interesting film about people and how they interact. Their dreams shattered and their dreams fulfilled, and the fall-out that goes with it.

I must admit that the last few minutes of the film did grip me unlike any of the other block-buster type nonsense I see. I was rooting for a sign that there was forgiveness and that people make mistakes.

And the music for the film was very good too. Hit just the right nerve.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Everyone" has issues of some kind., 21 Nov 2006
By Killer "panicbolt" (Droitwich,UK) - See all my reviews
As the title suggests this film is a moment in time for a cross section of people. The Gay issue forms the back drop but the variety of problems besetting the guests to this Gay "Wedding" is examined as the film progresses. There are touches of Desperate Housewives in the music score, and subtle humour throughout,I thought it moved at a good pace and am puzzled by some of the negative reviews. The casting was good especially the interplay between the three leading men, and the acting, although a bit wooden in parts was okay.I would definately recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars ex-pat yankee, 24 Mar 2006
By A Customer
this Canadian film is really quite funny, indeed profound, if you just give it a chance, and the moviewatcher has to remember that this is a Canadian, not an American film. It uses dramatic pauses (like Harold Pintner's pauses) which, if you are paying attention, are actually quite effective. I was surprised by the many negative reviews posted here because the gentle humanity of this film is one of its winning qualities. All I can say is, the movie is really quite good and deserves more attention than it has received up to now.

I have never watched a film where I have had to fast forward through every scene. The script for this film was probably written in half a day. Definitely avoid at all costs.
