Amazon.co.uk Review
Make no mistake, Clone Wars is honest-to-goodness authentic Star Wars. The animated series takes place between Episode II, Attack of the Clones and Episode III, Revenge of the Sith. If the feature films covers the beginning and end of the war, Clone Wars depicts the actual battles and events that made heroes into legends. Don't expect too much character development, as the episodes tend to be driven more by flat-out action than by dialogue (which can be a good thing, considering some Star Wars dialogue). We see such familiar faces as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Mace Windu in combat, and we meet the elite Arc clone troopers plus new Jedi--the amphibious Kit Fisto and two women, Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee. We also see a little more development of Anakin--showing off the best pilot skills in the army, defying Obi-Wan, and engaging in a deadly duel with Sith apprentice Asajj Ventress. But just when it's clear that the Separatist droid armies are no match for a Jedi, the tide begins to turn with the introduction of the menacing General Grievous, who plays a crucial part in Episode III. The cast mostly consists of veteran voice actors, but Anthony Daniels does appear as C-3PO.

Clone Wars was created by Genndy Tartakovsky, whose resume includes such stylish series as Samurai Jack, Dexter's Laboratory, and The Powerpuff Girls, and the program won a 2004 Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming One Hour or More). These 20 episodes, which played on the Cartoon Network, can be viewed as a seamless 69-minute whole or as individual chapters. DVD features include two commentary tracks, a making-of featurette, video game and Episode III trailers, and an Xbox playable demo of the stealth game Republic Commando. If you're a fan who can't wait for Episode III, Clone Wars is essential viewing. --David Horiuchi

Synopsis
The war which began in the feature film STAR WARS: EPISODE II- ATTACK OF THE CLONES continues in this animated series directed by Genndy Tartakovsky. The separatists and the republic engage in a blowout fight, with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Yoda defending the republic against the likes of Count Dooku, an alien bounty hunter, and many others. The program features a unique format that consists of many short segments ranging from two to three minutes in length. In each micro-episode, new characters join the ongoing battle of good against evil. This Emmy Award winning series has earned critical acclaim for it's highly original visual style, which features characters rendered in an elongated manner that brings attention to the drawing process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential viewing before seeing Episode III, 7 May 2005
By Mr. Gareth I. Davies "giddig" (Dudley, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having caught a few of the second series episodes of this on Cartoon Network and realised how great it is I just couldn't wait and got the region 1 version through amazon rather than wait for this region 2. It's ace! Previous Star Wars cartoons have been a bit iffy (Ewoks and Droids have a nostalgic place in my heart but are probably best left there rather than seen again and being disappointed)but this IS quality. Great animation, great story, good voice cast that are as close to the real actors as you are likely to get. The DVD is great as it puts the VERY short episodes together so it's like watching one FRANTIC movie. Volume two is meant to tell the story of the opening scroll of words from episode three too. Roll on Volume 2! It's a shame it may be swept away now Mr Lucas is promoting his own CGI star wars series (trying to steal back some of his clone wars thunder perhaps?).

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Star Wars? Watch this, 3 April 2005
The clone wars is more than just a spin off cartoon from the films, it is the definative story which tells the story of what happens between episodes two and three. We get to see who the Republic fairs against the seperatists, the Jedi command armies and fleets in battle. Oh you also see Yoda kick some more ass.
Fans of Samurai Jack will love this the fast paced action and little diologue will seem familliar, even if you've never seen Samurai Jack any star wars fans will love this. Even if your not this is well worth a look at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kinetic Star Wars fun, 9 Aug 2007
By Ian Tapley "thefragrantwookiee" - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
THE STORY:
The Clone Wars rage across the galaxy and everywhere, from Dantooine to Mon Calamari, the Jedi are called on to lead the forces of the Republic. Obi-Wan Kenobi is tasked with leading an army in a strike against a Separatist stronghold, whilst Anakin Skywalker finds himself the target of a Dark Jedi assassin.

WHAT'S GOOD:
These cartoons, which can be watched as short vignettes or as a single movie, do a great job of capturing the dynamic visual element of the Star Wars movies, be it the colossal space battle to the fierce lightsaber duel. Basically, what we have here is pure fun distilled from the Star Wars mythos. There's also lots of cool elements throughout from the ARC Troopers to Anakin going a little bit Darth Vader. The last episode on this DVD is by the far the best as it features a team of Jedi getting the snot kicked out of them by the cyborg General Grievous (this was made before Lucas wrote the wheezing coward seen in Episode III).

WHAT'S BAD:
The cartoons, when originally released, were only a few minutes long each. This means that they never achieve much in the way of depth of sophistication. Also, Anakin is an irritating little bugger (but we can lay that crime at the feet of George Lucas himself).

Overall, this is a great bit of entertainment and is far superior to 'Attack of the Clones' itself.
