Not as good as I remember..., 4 April 2006
Nostalgia - it's a blessing and a curse. Looking back on things from your childhood makes you remember lots of good things. However, when you get a chance to watch something again that you loved as a child - like I have got in the case of this Ewok DVD - it spoils the nice image you used to have.Ewoks are brilliant. Ewoks Animated Adventures is not. I can't believe I sat through this DVD. I thought it would be excellent, a chance to remember my childhood and recall watching these on TV. Were they really this bad? The animation is worse than your standard Saturday morning fare, and the voice overs are so dreadfully annoying. Why are they so squeky? And the music gets on your nerves after about five minutes, because it's the same tune repeated over and over again. There's nearly three hours of footage on this DVD, so it's good value for money, but I was struggling to stay awake after 10 minutes. The storylines range from boring and silly, to OK. They mostly concern themselves with forest adventures, mishaps and a battle against an evil wood witch. I don't even think kids today would find this enjoyable - mainly because they are used to more high tech cartoons. I used to love this. Now, rewatching it has made me lose that nostalgic feeling I used to get when thinking back about watching this! Now a grown up, I realise that it was just a cash-in of 1983 to co-incide with the movies and appeal to small boys, like myself at the time. What a shame.
