Small but perfectly formed, 5 Oct 2005
The olympus mju mini s is a stunningly stylish 5 megapixal camera which will allow you to enlarge your images in crystal clear quality up to a4 size. The camera is a clear 1.8 inch lcd display. The camera has 14 scene modes including snow, fireworks and cusine which allow distinct changes to your photo's. The camera has a built in editing function's including red eye reduction. The camera has a movie mode which will record with sound. One dowmside to the camera is that it only has a 2x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom instead of a standard 3x optical zoom on most digital cameras. The camera is pictbridge compatible for direct printing. In the box you get the camera, a usb lead ( to transfer photos to pc or printer), a lithium battery, a battery charger, Olympus photo editing software and an av cable (to hook up to tv to view your photos) and a 16mb xd card( i recomend you upgrade this to at least 256mb). I thoroughly recomend this camera to anyone who wnats a small and stylish camera with a decent enlargement capacity who dosent mind a smaller zoom.

Let Your Friends Experience Envy, 21 Jun 2005
What a camera! I eventually caved to the digital revolution and bought one of these little beauties. The camera itself is tiny, it really is. It fits quite easily into the palm of my hand. Of course this has drawbacks if you have slightly podgy fingers as the power button and the "quickview" button are initially a little awkward to use. However, practice makes perfect! The camera itself can take pictures to a maximum of 5 Megapixels (this is easily adjustable to save memory space if you so desire), and although it may seem that you could go and buy a 7-8 Megapixel camera for the same price, you have to remember that you are paying for a quality manufacturer. The truth is, 5 Megapixels is more than adequate for most situations, particularly indoors. The flash is quite bright, eye-damagingly bright some might say. Two disadvantages I've found are that it takes a rather long time to recharge (I say long time, I mean about 5 seconds but it seems an age) and the flash can actually ruin close up photos if you're not careful with it. Although the camera is supposed to auto-decide on flash, you may find yourself having to manually turn this off (this isn't particularly hard though.) Those of you interested in the pre-set "options" available will be glad to hear that there are plenty. Many of which I have not in fact used. They are handy when you have plenty of time to mess around but, for a straight picture then just using the normal mode is fine. Navigating the photos is also fairly easy, with album options and so on for quickly cycling through photos when you have hundreds on one memory chip. A quick note about the storage, 16MB is definately not enough. I upgraded to 128MB, as I felt any larger would be wasteful, i don't intend to have that many photos on the camera at any one time. What else is there to say? Well, the software is a bit slow but its more than adequate for the average users purposes. The video quality is surprisingly good for a camera, although best used in high-light situations. Sound playback is very good when the video is uploaded onto the computer, but sounds a bit tinny when played on the camera due to the small speaker. Other than that, just know that the screen is of generous proportions (and very clear!)The other options to play around with photos, for example clipping them, are fun to mess around with, and basically its an enjoyable camera. People genuinely go "cool" when they see it for the first time, which is always nice. Thats all, 5 Stars despite the trivial things! Brilliant, marvellous, excellente and all the rest of it! Well worth buying.

Great camera, 11 Nov 2005
I bought this camera and it hasnt let me down. Ots really small, it surprises you when you open the box, and as i bought it in enamel black it looks wicked. As far as picture quality goes, my brothers got a very high end sony, and my parents have a 5.0 MP sony aswell, and the picture quality of daytime at least matches the both of them. The zoom is more than ample, and the zooming on on the picture once youve taken it is amazing. There are alot of little functions on it too, and to be honest the ones such as 'fish eye' etc are fair enough but really a bit pointless if you have a computer. The way you can have a car evving when it starts up is a nice touch. As the flash is so close to the lens the red eye is quite bad, but again easy to remove if you have a computer and a program like googles' free picasa. The flash itself is incredibly powerful, and is great for night shots which are close up, but as to be expected from a camera this size it doesnt go very far. It does take about 5 seconds to charge it between shots too. In the day you can take about 10 shots on full resolution, which is very impressive and much better than the two sony cameras I mentioned earlier, which can pretty much fit an A size piece of paper. After this it has pauses for a second and you can carry on again. The way this works is that there is a small bar in the corner of the screen which fills up as you take more shots and it has to store to the card. The only gripe I have with picture quality is that after it gets dark the shots can blur easily if your not using a flash for some reason. Another thing that might be a problem, although it isnt for me, is that there is obviously no viewfinder. And you cannot buy this camera and not buy a larger XD card for it, the 16MB one it comes with is obviously pathetic, allowing 4 pictures in full quality. But all cameras come with the worst card so its nothing isolated. I bought a 512MB card which stored enough photos and vids for the whole of my two week holiday using it every day so id recommend buying one. The 'Panorama' function which Olympus seem very proud of in truth is a bit of a waste of time sadly. Also, although the finish looks great it smudges very very easily. I think its the same with most cameras which do videos, but you can only soom before you start filming, once youve started the soom is locked. In my experience, as long as you run it right down the first time, and then charge it up again before using it, and make sure the flash is turned off when its not needed and other such things which just require common sense, it will easily last a day out and probably two, taking pictures and viewing them quite alot as I do, including playing back movies. The charge takes a miximum of two hours, and the charger light is red until its done, when it turns green and it actually stops charging the battery so it is not damaged. Movie shot quality is obviously far from a video camera but its great for a stills camera and the microphone is great. You can also add narration to pictures, if you want to. The buttons are close together but simple to use, and the menus are straight forward,l but if you do not understand them they are explained well in the manual. The software it comes with is very user friendly, and fast too, as the camera has a USB 2.0 connection so you are not waiting ages for transfers.. It is simple to change the folder where the files are stored. When the files are transferred , they are placed in a folder which is goven a unique code as the name, which is then itself placed in a folder called 'store' and then in the folder you choose, so no pictures are overwritten. I am very pleased with my camera and i would recommend it to anyone. All the problems i have mentioned are very small, and dont ruin this great camera.
