Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

One of the early concerns about the PSP was that it would end up being a dumping ground for barely tweaked ports of existing PS2 games. Although Tony Hawk’s Underground 2: Remix is little different from the console originals, it’s a game that benefits greatly from going portable.

The original game’s freedom of choice -- go anywhere and do anything -- works particularly well when you’re gaming on the move, allowing you to dip in for a quick mess around, while the story mode and more complex challenges can be tackled when you’ve got more time to play.

Although most of the game is the same as before, there are four tricky new levels to explore. Indeed, "tricky" could be used to describe a lot of Tony Hawk Underground: without the use of the PS2's twin analogue sticks, the game's control system can be awkward.

Although a brand new game in the franchise, specifically made for the PSP, would’ve been ideal this is still a superior slice of gaming the likes of which has never been seen on a portable before. -- Harrison Dent

Manufacturer's Description

Tony Hawk's Underground 2: Remix takes players on an all new skating blitzkrieg where they embark on the ultimate road trip from Tony Hawk's Underground 2, in addition to wreaking havoc in four never-before-seen city-levels -- Las Vegas, Atlanta, Kyoto and Santa Cruz -- that feature original goals, level changing events and unlockable characters. For the first time, players can live the Tony Hawk console gaming experience on a handheld device as they join either Tony Hawk or Bam Margera on a World Destruction Tour where they nail insane tricks with lightning speed or slow motion focus control, pull off mischievous pranks, and conquer sick terrain through 13 single-player levels, or face off against up to three friends in 10 wireless multiplayer games.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great PSP conversion., 3 Feb 2006

Now, i'm not a big fan of skateboarding, but the games... Well, they're O.K. This however, exceeded my expectations, and is a fantastic addition to the PSP.

This is the same as the PS2 copy, except for a couple of additional goals, i'm not exactly sure how similar as i do not have the PS2 counterpart. The story, as far as i know, is exactly the same. Tony Hawk and Bam are holding a World Destruction Skateboarding Tournament, and your expected to win it for them.

Graphically, this is as good as the PS2 gets. Very little pop up or glitches, detailed environments from Barcelona, to Skatopia and Las Vegas, and the characters are all well designed. The gameplay is brilliant. There is a story mode, where you complete challanges on the destruction tournament, such as scoring enough points via the various tricks, flips, manuals, and other stunts. Finding items, making jumps, or completing certain tricks. The classic mode is similar, but timed and void of story. There is the ability to create your own challanges, characters and skate parks, and there are movies to unlock too. Add to this, the unlockable characters such as Steve O on a mechanical bull, various known skaters such as Mullen, and of course, strange people in go karts.

The sound makes this game stand apart with a soundtrack of over 50 songs, including Jimmy Eat World, Disturbed etc, however, if you dont like hip hop, rock or punk rock, you wont like it. However, it is a fantastic selection and excellent choice, and you can opt to create your own playlist. Best bit is that you can even use your own photos on your created characters.

So any problems. If you hate skateboarding, probably wise to stay away from it. It can be annoyingly hard, and theres a lot of repeating, and loading is poor, but if you don't mind these, get this game. A great addition to any PSP collectors editions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tony Hawk's Underground 2: Remix (PSP), 13 Aug 2005

A few months ago I got this game with my Japanese Import PSP, it was my first portable game console and I didn't know what to expect as I had never seen a PSP game in action.

As soon I slotted the UMD in I was surprised at how amazing it looked and played, the amazing PSP screen worked really well with this game and it has only slightly dulled down graphics than the PS2 version of the game.

The first day it arrived the controls were my biggest worry. How would you be able to fit all the actions into a console without L2, L3, R2, R3 or right analog stick?
I felt sure that the game would not be awesome because of this but once again I was surpised. The tiny analog stick has two controls:
a) focus mode
b) rotating camera

It does this by how long you flick the stick for. If you hold it down in one direction the camera will rotate that way, if you flick it quickly the game will go into focus mode (slow motion).
It sounds difficult, yet is simple to master, and in no time you will notice how well the controls go with this game.

It is a very addictive game to play and you can skate each level for about an hour until you get bored, but as there are so many of them it has a huge lifespan.

The four extra levels are amazing, my favourite is the skate mecca "santa cruz", with "las vegas" being a close second, there are also a few more characters which are added on to the long list of original skaters, such as rodney mullen and mike valley.

The PSP console makes this game even better by being able to turn off the power, and hours/days later, switch it back on to pervent annoying load times, which take about the same time as the PS2 version.

The face mapping is made far easier on this version and looks great, all you have to do is take a picture, upload it onto PC and then upload it onto the PSP, but there is an even faster way if you have got a sony camera which uses Sony mb pro duo memory cards, as you can take the memory card out of the camera right after you have taken a picture and then slot the memory card into the PSP.

Because none of my friends have a psp around here I cannot explain about the Wifi, although it seems easy to work and create a group.

Overall this game is showing the PSP's true potential and also that we can expect alot more to come from this amazing console.

Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
having spent about 4 years of my life maxing out all the old games, i was determined not to get totally addicted to THUG2 on the psp. the controls are done very nicely, the graphics, music and levels are superb and i spend every free second i have playing it. if there's anything better than being able to knock out a few challenges while on a short bus ride, i don't know what is. amazing!
