Amazon.co.uk Review
Two years on from his pledge to get rich or die trying, New York's Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is turning his guns on the opposition. Barely ten seconds into The Massacre, the first innocent – a young woman opening her Valentine's present, no less – is dispatched in a hail of gunfire, and from there on in, the carnage seldom lets up. "Piggy Bank" sees him tossing insults at Jadakiss, Ja Rule, Nas, Fat Joe, and Kelis in the verses, and counting his big piles of money in the chorus, while "Gatman and Robbin" – featuring vocals and production from Eminem – paints the pair as gun-toting supergangstas with bulletproof vests and an all-for-one-and-one-for-all attitude to beef.

And when there's not violence, there is sex. The single, "Candy Shop", debuts new G-Unit singer Olivia, who gives 50 the opportunity to test out some of his best double entendres: "I'll melt in your mouth, girl, not in your hand." There's not a track here with the cross-over capacity of "In Da Club", and at 21 tracks long, it would be disingenuous to claim The Massacre is wholly without filler. But the beats are tight, and 50's still got one of the most confident styles in the game: it would be absurd to suggest The Massacre was going to be anything other than huge. --Louis Pattison

Album Description
50 Cent's last record, Get Rich Or Die Trying, was one of the most successful in hip-hop history so hopes are high for the follow-up, The Massacre. The album includes "Disco Inferno", which has created a huge underground buzz, and the first official single, "Candy Shop" featuring Olivia. The album also includes "Piggy Bank," the highly anticipated diss track against Jadakiss, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Nas and Kelis. Production duties are taken on by Dr. Dre, Eminem, Hi Tek, Sha Money XL, Dangerous LLC, JR, Scott Storch, Buckwild, Q Beats and Needlez.

1.0 out of 5 stars 50 Bent - The Massicrap, 27 Nov 2005
Before I am criticized for my title to this album, please hear me out.

I have been listening to hip-hop and its genious since I can remember and have always admired such landmarks that need to be noticed such as Illmatic, The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, The Low End Theory and one of my all time favourites Ready To Die, from the late Biggie Smalls. There are too many to name.

Being such a fan I feel that it is my duty to shout out to the people and explain why this album is a disgrace to hip-hop and all it stands for.

'The Massacre' is nothing more than a crap attempt at making an R&B album. Now I have nothing against R&B but I have got problems with artists who are making records that turn hip-hop into R&B, such as 50 Cent and G-Unit.

This album is a pathetic excuse for music and should not be classed as hip-hop. Those who have the nerve to say that it is 'true hip-hop' (which is quite a few) know nothing of the word and think that 50 Cent is a gangster so they follow him. This is how hip-hop is changing and, inevitibally, dying thanks to artists such as 50 Cent and his 'gangsta' G-Unit.

I think that The Game shows alot of potential in his album 'The Documentary' and will, intime, switch up his flow so that he can compete against such hip-hop gods as Slick Rick, 2pac and The Notorious B.I.G. 50 Cent, however, has no hip-hop talent left in khis body and therefore can only sing his way up the ladder of R&B superstar. Even though its pretty hard to tell what the hell he's talking about most of the time!

If you wanna listen to good, fun music then The Game will moisten you up, especially since releasing 'Ghost Unit' which is an official mixtape and basically makes a fool of 50 Cent.

Thank you for reading this and I hope my point has got across on why this album is not hip-hop or good at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is the best album of the year????, 3 Jul 2005
While I found 50's first album pretty boring and uninventive, i assumed it was just down to the fact that like most artists it would take him an album to get the hang of it. He didn't. Undoubtably this was the most hyped up and eagerly awaited album of the year, but half the album is filler, and the other half is boring. I can honestly say after buying it I've listened to it maybe twice. Possibly the song that I was most looking forward to was Piggy Bank, the apparently amazing diss song, that will destroy Nas, Jadakiss, Fat Joe, Ja Rule and Shyne. But listening to it is laughable when you compare it to Jadakiss's Check Mate, or Shyne's For The Record. Everywhere I read now, people keep talking like 50 is some sort of lyrical T-rex, but this diss song is soooo weak. I just can't wait until Nas releases a song with the caliber of Ether on 50.

Eminem should sit down with 50 and tell him that even gangstas can talk about love or some sort of emotion (other than anger). Think about all of the greats (BIG, Pac, Jay-Z etc) none of them were (or are) afraid to talk about something other than shooting people (eg BIG's Suicidal Thoughts), however if 50 gets off of the subjects of killing or sex he seems sadly lost. In 1 song he seems stupidly proud of A Baltimore Love Thing, 50 uses a method already used by Nas and Tupac, (who both use extended metaphors to rap about guns) 50 attempts to rap along as if he is herion, but seems miserably confused, at times he is herion and at other times he seems to forget and raps as some sort of abusive husband.

His rhymes seem pathetic and ridiculous, I mean I would challenge anyone to find 5 songs on the album where 50 doesn't rhyme the words HOOD and GOOD. His flow is weak at times, and on The Guns Come Out, appears to attempt to sing, which really is just funny.

Personally i like both more hard core rap along with pop rap, so it's not his 'popiness' which I dislike about 50, it's his complete lack of a likeable personality and his obbession that no one can rival him despite the poorness of his rhymes. I could rip into every single song on the whole album, but I won't.

PS the bonus DVD of 50 live in concert is also pathetic, and definitly cemented in my mind that I should never ever ever ever see him perform live. His whole show seems to revolve around taking off his shirt, and putting his middle finger up at the crowd. WHAT A GENIUS.

3.0 out of 5 stars Room for improvement, 29 Jul 2005

(REAL NAME)
Although I feel this album was enjoyable, I can't help but feel a little let down. The reason is (like most of 50's supporters) that it isn't even half as good as "Get rich or die tryin'". Yes it does have some thrilling club songs like "Disco Inferno", "Candy Shop" and "Just a lil' Bit", but the rest of the album doesn't really feel like he's making a good effort. In fact the only track that he really shows any determination or passion is the super-dis song "Piggy Bank", this is probably strongest song on the album but at the same time it's just 50 being 50, boasting about being about being a super-hard gangster. When 50 releases his third album I would like to see him be more creative, we know he can be. I would like him to put more heart into his work like Eminem showed in "The Eminem Show" and less boasting about his ritches.
