5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for kids and adults, 31 May 2005
By A Customer
As the review below point out, this is fantastic game for kids and adults alike, particularly when played with more than one person. It's a shame to see the ratings dragged down by someone that couldn't play it - this is not the game's fault. I'm going to deviate from discussing the game itself but only in the hope of shedding some light for people who may be caught out by the technical requirements.

If you do follow the advice of the person for whom it did not work and look at the reviews on Amazon.com, you'll find many people expressing surprise that it doesn't work on their new PCs thanks to 'Pixel Shader 1.1'. The first lesson is: if you're buying games for your PC, remember that even the most simple game is running on a complicated and unstable beast. Make sure you find out the minimum spec and the spec of your computer first. Now, Amazon are poor at telling you what you need. Basically, it's the graphics card that is the problem for most people.

Contrary to many of the reviews, this is not Eidos' fault, some conspiracy to make people buy NVidia graphics cards nor planned obselesance to make you upgrade. Instead, it's part of a wider problem of poor computer construction by large manufacturers. To cut down on prices yet still offer advert-friendly high-speed processors that in reality the average user will never need, manufacturers cut down on, amongst other things, the graphics cards (the unethical nature of this is illustrated by the fact that the only use of the PC that will need such a high-speed processor will need a graphics card to match). In most cases this involves repacking years old technology with a name that makes it hard to tell it apart from current generations - for example, the Geforce 4 MX series is actually a rehashed Geforce 2. This means it will struggle to cope with anything released in the last few years.

If you right-click on your desktop and go to the 'Settings' tab, it will tell you what Graphics card you have. Use Google and do some research on that card, particularly in relation to pixel shaders. If you're not sure, download and play the demo. The Geforce 4 MX cards will not run this game. If you're unfortunate enough to have this card or any other with the same faults, you will either have to buy a new card or not buy this game. Make sure you do your bit to change this scamming of the average consumer by buying your next PC from responsible, local retailers who are not preying on ignorance and selling a PC completely unsuitable for average needs.

If your card can run it, then hurrah! For this is one of the best 'kid's' games ever made - it doesn't patronise or pass off sloppy work just because the developers don't think children will notice. It's fun, fantastic to look at and a barrel of laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best father-son game ever!, 8 Aug 2006
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This is the best father-son game I have ever bought for the PC.

My six-year-old son and I played this game for hours and hours over several months. He started to phone me at work and ask me to come home as soon as possible so we could continue the adventure.

The game itself has a number of different levels, and on each level certain combinations of characters will enable you to clear it. It's a lot of fun figuring out which characters will do the trick.

The graphics are excellent and the storyline closely follows the films. It's great fun.

That said, you should note the other reviews on this page warning that the game does not work with all PCs. Make sure you're OK before buying. Knowing what I know now, I would buy a new graphics card if necessary just to make this thing work.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Star Wars but it's LEGO - it's just not right!, 30 May 2006
By Mr. S. B. Reason "Skuber" (A Galaxy far, far away...) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
OK, first off, I would like to come out and admit it. Yes. It's true, I'm a total Star Wars nut. I've got every lightsaber Master Replicas made, I made it to Jedi in the lamented Star Wars Galaxies, I've seriously considered going on Master Mind with Star Wars as my specialist subject. You get the picture.

I also love Lego. But, let's be honest, the idea of a Lego Star Wars game didn't exactly float my boat. I've ignored this title for quite a long time - firstly, because I thought it was for kiddies - take a look at the box, ages 3+, and look at those graphics! And secondly, well er, because it's LEGO!

But my time is at hand. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine mentioned how had got this for his console, and how cool it was. Well, his glowing reviews convinced me to buy it.

And I'm very glad that he did.

Even though it's only the crappy episodes I-III, even though it's "blocky" lego, it's one of these games that shouldn't work, but it JUST DOES. It's a bit like a triple fried egg curry sandwich. It's fantastic and I love it!

Graphically, it's excellent. Even though it's only Lego, the rendering of the parts is fantastic. It really works. The space battles (Ep III into especially) are visually impressive, exciting, and great fun. The ground levels are every bit as fun - to be honest, I would say I've had more fun playing this game than I did watching Episodes I-III at the cinema!

For me, a personal highlight is that you can slice Ja-Ja in half with your lightsaber if you want... (I didn't say that)

The designers have done a very clever thing with this game - the game is quite easy to complete (for an adult). The age on the box is 3+, and for very young children, the game would be fantastic fun.

But for us adults, we can then go back and collect parts to make our space ships and vehicles. In point of fact, many 'secrets' on the levels can't be unlocked until you have characters with different skills (like the excreble Ja-Ja's jumping) to find special parts.

And it supports dual-play, a second player can just dip in and out whenever it suits them.

And - get this - my GIRLFRIEND LIKES IT! Would you believe it! Finally a Star Wars game that she likes! Mainly because it's cute, but also because it's fun, we've had literally ceaseless minutes of playing the game together!

It reminds me very much of something like the old Sonic the Hedgehog game, or one of the old platform games. The graphics are good quality, but cartoony, but the gameplay is so good it makes a great game.

Right now, it's less than a tenner. That's an absolute bargain. A great game for less than a decent round of drinks! What more could you want?

Easy to complete, difficult to master, I can't wait for the OT version to come out now :-)
