Manufacturer's Description
Play the most memorable and exhilarating scenes from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith including pod racing on Mos Espa, the repelling of the droid onslaught in the Genosian arena and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon's fatal fight with Darth Maul. Besides controlling the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker and R2-D2, notorious dark side enemies such as Jango Fett, Darth Maul and Count Dooku appear in thrilling boss showdowns. As you progress through the game you unlock many new characters including the defeated bosses, and you must switch between them to solve puzzles using their special abilities.

In addition to a single-player mode, there is a 'drop in, drop out' two-player co-operative mode allowing a second player to enter or leave the action whenever they want. There is also a free-play mode where unlocked characters can be played in different scenarios to those of the films. This adds immeasurably to the game's replayability and there are further incentives to complete the game for budding Jedi Knights in the form of hidden levels and vehicles.

Features:

  • Play the most memorable and exciting scenes from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and the forthcoming Episode III Revenge of the Sith
  • Massive array of vehicles including Naboo fighters, pod racers, speeder bikes, and yet-to-be-unveiled vehicles from Revenge of the Sith

  • Two–player 'drop in, drop out' mode
  • Free-play mode where unlocked characters can be played in different scenarios to the films.
  • Use 'The Force' to manipulate environments and objects in order to solve puzzles
  • Collectables that can be used to unlock hidden levels and vehicles
  • Authentic sounds from the films provided by Skywalker Studio

5.0 out of 5 stars Lego of my lightsabre!, 9 Jun 2005
It is somewhat surreal playing Lego Star Wars, a game based on toys that in turn are based on a series of movies. Really, this game should be naff but the developers have made the game so unashamedly fun and jolly that it turns out to be very, very cool.

I think it would be fair to say that LSW is aimed at the kids gaming market, but there is a lot for adults to get their teeth into, as minikits can be collected throughout the levels to earn Lego studs (the game's dubiously-named currency), plus if you collect enough studs during a level you can achieve 'True Jedi Status'. Manage that on every level and you unlock a special bonus level at the end of the game. Studs can also be traded for extra characters for you to play with, hints and also cheats - of which invincibility can come in very handy for collecting all the studs you need over the course of the adventure!

Lego Star Wars covers Episodes 1-3 of the Star Wars saga, and very effectively tells the story of each through gameplay and very cute cut scenes. The whole thing is presented in a fairly tongue-in-cheek way, poking gentle fun at the movies and characters. There is no speech really, but the facial expressions of the little Lego characters convey all they need to very well.

The areas of each movie that it uses for action (such as Ep 1's pod race, the fight with Darth Maul, Ep 2's battle through the droid factory, Ep 3's opening space battle) are well thought out. This is not a particularly difficult game, and your character can't die (you just lose studs if your health runs out) so most levels are completed at the first attempt, but you often need to go back to collect extra minikits and studs.

Each of the characters you can control has different skills: the Jedi can move Lego objects to build things or open up secret passages, Jar Jar Binks can jump high, R2-D2 can unlock doors and fly across gaps, Padme can fire a blaster and has a grappling hook, etc. These skills are all needed to find all the objects in-game, and the brilliant 'Free Play' mode allows you to take multiple characters into a level to utilise all of their abilities.

Graphically, LSW does the job, all the Lego models and minifigures look great, lighting and special effects add a sophisticated look to proceedings and it runs at a good pace. Sound, as with most Star Wars games, is excellent, and the music especially is used very well.

It's very easy to pick up and play, my 3 year old needs a little help with the pad but loves the game to bits and when I get a chance to play I am busy stacking up studs and minikits in order to unlock everything!

This is a fun Star Wars game that is well worth a play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a worthy Star Wars game!, 23 April 2005
Having been a little disappointed with some of the past Star Wars releases (I refer only to the games, of course!) I wasn't quite as swept away by the hype as I might otherwise have been for this one. Therefore, with a mind and opinion mostly untouched by the power of commercial advertising, I can tell you: this game is amazing!
It manages to combine the authentic feel of the Star Wars universe (a feat not always achieved in previous games) with the inherent comedy and fun of the LEGO universe, without being detrimental to either.
The only possible letdown I can think of is that the main story sections aren't immensely difficult, but this is made largely irrelevant by the HUGE amount of hidden characters, extras (moustaches anyone?), vehicles, stages etc etc that you have to hunt high and low for in order to earn. Also, the obscene amount of fun that I can practically guarantee you will have while playing this game further increases the replayability factor. The LEGO element also means that those who might usually not be interested in such games (girlfriends and younger children, possibly? I don't wish to stereotype, I'm just talking from my personal experience here...) will actually get a great deal of enjoyment from this.
Anyway, to cut a long review short, this is a superb game, full of charm, nifty little ideas (making furniture dance to music with the force is a good one), and enough replayability to make it a worthwhile purchase. Add to that some authentic Star Wars magic and you've got your five stars, baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars, 24 April 2005
On first look, this may seem a childs game, but i can assure you, it isn't. I admit it is rather easy is parts, but for any Star War fan, this game is a must. The system of two player drop in and out( allows a second player to enter the game and leave when they feel like) is a neat touch. The graphics are also good, with the entire Star Wars Episodes 1-3 world recreated in lego blocks, ranging from Pod Racing, to epic Star battles, but best of all, you get to use the lightsabre far more than in most Star Wars games. You even get to be Yoda! Overall, with 30 playable characters, 17 levels from Episode 1 to 3, this game is well worth the 25 quid price here on Amazon. Even though the game itself is shortish, there is so many hidden features, it can take a considearble time to complete.
