3.0 out of 5 stars get a canon ixus instead, 25 Jan 2006
    By A Customer
Overall this camera isn't too bad..I've had it for a year and it takes decent pictures, plus it is really easy to use and load pictures. Also it has a few extra colour functions, such as black and white etc. It's easy to carry and robust, I've dropped it countless times, covered it in paint, spilt stuff on it and so on...

The big problem with the camera is the shutter speed, it is hideously slow with flash on (flash is ALWAYS on otherwise most pictures are blurry) and videos not made in daylight are extremely blurry as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality photos for little cash, 20 Sep 2005
By D. Cromwell (Reading, Berkshire) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
Four days on the Dorset coastline in all weathers have given me an insight into some of the 5600's capabilities; overall I'm very impressed and relieved to have made a wise choice!

The right-hand grip, the weight of two AA batteries and a comfortable space for the right thumb ensures confident, steady handling. In use the 5600 is intuitive and its combination of buttons and on-screen menus are easy to master. To improve the speed of operation I invested in a Sandisk Ultra II 512mb memory card, which suits the camera well, plus some high-capacity rechargeables. Image quality is as good as you would expect from a well-known brand like Nikon, although the images straight from the camera appear rather soft. Using the software supplied to sharpen the images is highly recommended and the Nikon image-editor also allows you to straighten any wonky horizons. Nikon has a good reputation for macro shots and close-ups of flowers really shine with this camera.

In summary, if there is a better 5mp compact on offer for less than £150, it must be very good indeed.

3.0 out of 5 stars good functionality but rather clumsy, 20 Sep 2005
By m tennant "technicalrev" (united kingdom) - See all my reviews
    (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
The nikon 5600 has a 5 megapixal ccd which is ideal for enlarging up to a4 size and has a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom (try to only use the optical zoom as digital zoom lowers the quality of your pictures. These zooms are standard on compact cameras On the back you get a 1.8 inch lcd colour display, it has easy to use scene modes for creating that just perfect shot. The camera has a built in anti blurring sensor which analyses the picture after it has been taken to make sure its sharp and if it is not it warns the user so that they can take it again. The camera can take movies with sound. Unfortunatly the batteries supplied are aa's and are not rechargable therefore run out quickly. therefore i suggest you buy a charger and rechargable batteries. In the box you get the camera, software( for editing photos) a usb lead (to connect to pc) , aa batteries and a rather small 14mb sd card this will definatly need to be upgraded to at least 256mb in order to hold a decent amount of photo's. Although a really good camera in functionality the reason i have only given it a three star rating is the lack of rechargable battery and the fact that the back buttons on the camera are rather crowded so if you have large fingers you could easily press the wrong button's and the camera is a little chunky in my opinion to be called a compact camera. Go for this camera if you wont good functions like the scene modes and anti blurring warning's but not if you have big fingers or wont a true compact camera.
