Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Carry the fight to hell and back with DarkStalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower on the PSP, the ultimate monstrous beat-'em-up for the ultimate handheld machine.

Jedah, lord of one of the three hells, has gathered the Darkstalkers. They must fight to save their demonic world...they must fight to save their souls. DarkStalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower possesses a compelling cast of monstrous warriors, each possessing their own unique fighting skills and abilities. This fierce brawler not only encompasses all eighteen menacing characters from the previous five critically acclaimed installments of the franchise, but it is also re-mastered to include additional content, game modes and wireless content especially for the PSP.

The game features various modes of play including arcade, training and network, all with their own demonic challenges to face. The real challenge though lies in the new tower mode; select three characters from the extensive roster and ascend to the pinnacle of a mysterious tower where many opponents await players. Each fight is a one-on-one battle and your energy does not replenish after each fight. Pitting the right competitor against an opponent will be the key to success to rise up the Tower as far as possible.

With it's full line-up of monsters, various modes of play and wireless gaming for two-player action, DarkStalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower is set to redefine hand held fighting by delivering the quintessential arcade game to the PSP handheld system.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing, stylish, long live, colourfull, fast-paced, funny, 11 Oct 2005
This is one of two best fighting games I ever played on a game system (not going to say what's the other one, or the review will be banned, but I think I can tell you it has the name of a city from the US of A in the title).
It has the funniest moves I've ever seen, the brightest and colourfull charecters (and many of them), a well balanced difficulty level. The game's also quite long as it has plenty of game modes, and many rewards to be gained for the matches won.
One of the best looking graphics I've seen on the PSP. People complain at the controls design, but worry not, you'll get used to it, they are not that hard (to throw fire-ball, just press =>, <=, then kick or puch).
An outstanding title for the PSP.

3.0 out of 5 stars PSP Gets Stalked, 4 Sep 2005
By Scarlettspiderg (Salford, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Darkstalkers originally came out in 1994, since then its seen a few revisions and its animation has greatly improved. Having graced the arcade, Sega Saturn, Playstation and Dreamcast, its now made its way onto the PSP.

The graphics and sound are near arcade perfect and look beautiful on the PSP (which gives the option of 4:3 or 16:9 screen size), pulling off dark force attacks leave the player with amazing animations that can take up the whole screen.

All the Darkstalkers characters (18 and 2 hidden) are included in the game, and Capcom have included the option of switching character types, so you can play as Original Darkstalkers (with limited moves) or Darkstalkers 3 (with more moves). Also included is the options for Auto and Turbo, which allows you to speed up your character and allow for the PSP to auto guard attacks for you.

Modes of play include Arcade (pick 1 fighter and take on 6 others), Tower (pick 3 fighters and fight round after round, unlocking new gallery pics), Wireless (one on one with a friend) and Chronicle (allowing the player to view pics, movies and listen to sounds from the game).

Being a big fan of Capcom 2D fighters I really looked forward to this title, sadly there is one thing that lets it down.

Controls - 3 buttons for kicks, 3 for punches - works great. D-Pad controls movement, and this is where it falls apart. Moving forward/back is okay but jumping forward/back is nigh impossible to pull off. This really complicates pulling of fireball attacks and combos, which can get frustrating.

Fans of the Darkstalker series (or Capcom fighters in general) should get some fun out of seeing a true portable Capcom fighter, but the controls may put a few people off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Laughable controls, 9 Oct 2005
By A Customer
There are very few positive things to say about this game. You simply cannot carry out diagonal movements with any degree of success using the PSP D-pad. Unfortunately, as about 80% of the special moves require this kind of movement, the game is virtualy unplayable. It is so bad that I spent about 40 minutes just trying to do a fireball move in training mode - and didn't pull it off once. Diagonal jumping is just as impossible, which means you often can't get near the AI character without just walking up to them normally. I've played Capcom fighting games many times, so it is not a lack of technique on my part. I cannot believe they have the nerve to release this to the general public, as they must have noticed this when testing it!!! If their lazy testers had bothered to play it properly, they would have seen the benefit of actually using the analogue stick, which can be rotated in a much smoother arc. As far as I can see, using the analogue stick is not an option. What a dreadful waste, as the graphics and characters are superb. It'll be comical to see if they mess up as much with the new SF Alpha game for the PSP...
