3.0 out of 5 stars For hardcore fans only, 21 Dec 2005
By Smokey Joe "biglouis" (London) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Don't get me wrong, this is an enjoyable DVD and arguably an important historical document. It is also terrific to see Ian Anderson reminiscing today about his experiences nearly 35 years ago. The problem I have is that I was expecting a concert DVD and I ended up with a documentary, with concert footage.

Murray Lerner seems to be trying to extract the last possible drop of revenue out of his Isle of Wight Festival footage with the result that this offering is neither fish nor foul.

The performances are exemplary (and should be required viewing for any aspiring rock musician, in my humble opinion) but at the end of the day, I don't think I'd watch this more than once, or at best more than once every few years. If I've sowed the seeds of doubt I guarantee you'd enjoy renting it.

2.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment, 4 Jun 2006
By M. Webber (Hants, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

Yes I was disappointed when I saw this DVD, thank God I borrowed it and didn't waste my money.

What tracks there were from the IOW (and I was there) were good, its the rest of the DVD that I object to. There was even a track from another concert and the interview with IA was so boring.

I hate all interviews on concert footage especially when they are put in between tracks and spoil the continuity and flow of a concert. Most interviewees have very little useful to say. The worst case is the Band's Last Waltz.

This Tull DVD seems to be produced as a money spinner without any regard for quality. Don't waste your money on it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A real treat, 20 Jul 2005
By A Customer
I thoroughly enjoyed this DVD. The film quality is good, and it was interesting to see the concert in the context of what was going on at the perimeter fence. The music was of course superb, although slightly worrying to see that Ian Anderson hadn't really moved on a great deal in terms of his flute solos over the years. The other striking feature is that you can see that the current band stands of the shoulders of its predecessors, and the other members of the band were superb. However a missed opportunity: it was good to have interviews with Ian Anderson, but why not with the other band members, especially the superb and under-appreciated Martin Barre. It perpetuates the myth that JT are just Ian with a support band, and this would have been an opportunity to show that it was, and is, a band.
